I hope I'm putting this in the right place, seems like it would be related to cabbing...
I've been searching for belt buckles that I can make my own stones for. But, all I can find is western, or other style blanks with lots of design and patterning, usually with only a place for a standard oval cab. Some of those are nice, but most of my friends and family would want something more angular, simpler, contemporary... not sure of the words I'm looking for but those sort of work.
Ideally, I'd be looking for something plainer, or even just a solid rim around a flat back for a stone that covers the whole buckle. Like those made for tooled leather squares, but not curved like those (Not sure I could get into hours and hours of trying to grind a matching curve in the back of a slab!)
Looking through secondhand stores and ebay for buckles, so I could remove the existing stone and replace it, has given me some ideas but not turned up much so far.
I'd want fairly heavy solid built ones, either two part screw-on or one the kind that has a solid bezel you roll over all the way around the stone. Don't want to depend on just glue or prongs. Do any of you know of places that might sell such a thing?
Thanks, Vince

You just might want to think about making your own. I took a silver smithing class last fall and one of the projects we did was a belt buckel. Went to the local hardware store and purchased some brass that was the thickness I wanted. Soldered a bezel on, silver, for the stone as well as the little deal that the belt goes through and the tang that goes into the belt hole. Wasn't too bad to do. The brass can be cut to whatever shape you want. It can be shined up or painted depending on what you need. It was a fun project and I think after the first couple of buckles you could put together a bunch in a fairly short amount of time.
I also popped "belt buckle blanks" into goooogle and there were a bunch of places that sell them. Good luck! Bill

Thanks Bill- I did think about making them, but didn't want to take up another hobby just yet... it does sound like it would be fun though. I already have one planned out of copper tubing and electrical wire if I ever get to that. I just googled again too, and saw some that might be closer to what I'm looking for, will go through them again. Last time I just found a lot of the same stuff. 'Course I didn't look through all 562 links google found either!
