Well, looks like you chalk another one up to cabbing fever. I finally went down to my rock club this past weekend and took the plunge. Not sure what kind of Jasper it is but I got it in a jasper/agate mix from Shain a while back. I live in Houston and hadn't realized how much equipment they have at our local rock club. 5 silicon carbide stations (up to 600) for shaping and a diamond station for prepolish, not to mention the 3 huge saws that you can use to slab a bigger rock for free. The feeling of being able to finally shape the rock how I wanted to was indescribable. I couldn't stop thinking "Mom's in Heaven now !!". Needless to say I plan on spending a good part of my Saturdays from now on at the club (that is until I can convince my husband we need unit at home ) Everyone in this group have been great inspiration. Thanks, Sandy

Hi Pagstones, Great job on the cab, pretty Jasper too. You went and did it, you made your first cab and now you are hooked, I know the feeling, I haven't figured out a cure yet, but I think it is making more cabs ;-) Great Job, Dan www.dbrockwerks.com

Excellent job. I'm sorry to say this, but, it's all downhill from here. There's just something about taking a piece of rough rock and transforming it into a polished beauty in a matter of minutes, rather than months.

Vrey Cool Sandy, At least rock cutting is a good addiction! we call that material Wonderstone, though you piece may actaully be the finer grade, which is like jasper. Then we call it Hickorite. Though some would dispute Hickyorite only comes mexico, i have seen fine grades in many other sorces that were a dead giveaway to the original mexican material.

Thanks everyone!
Just wanted to report that you were all right. I went to the club this weekend and realized it would be TWO weeks before I could cab again. Got back home and set down with the husband who took one look and said "You want a cabbing machine don't you". I smiled hopefully and longingly and he said go ahead! So I ended up ordering a Pixie. Granted I promised not to buy any more rock until I'd used up all the boxes of stuff that have been arriving at the house for the last couple of months so he figures he'll come out ahead ;D.

Funny how a woman gives that look and gets what she wants- a man gives that look and they are told to stop being a baby!!!!

Welllll...what I didn't mention was that I'd been dropping hints about a cabbing machine for the last 4 months and I think he was was getting tired of hearing about it so it didn't take much to push him over the edge. It also helped that I'd just gotten a raise that pretty much paid for the machine. Stefan, When he gives me the same look I always agree he can have whatever toy he is hoping for. So he is usually agreeable when it comes my turn. That way we're both happy ;D
