I've got some rocks that just don't like to take a shine on the 3000 wheel so was going to try the diamond paste. A book I have shows putting lots of little dots of paste on a pad, then working it in with your rock. Is this the method those of you use that use diamond paste?

Yup- I use (as per stoners advice) a dolop about the size of Half and Orange pit to cover half of my 8 inch belt (I use 14000 on one half and 50000 on the other half)

Hi Sandy. I use diamond paste all the time on my leather belt. I put a very small amount on the belt and work it in with my finger until it just looks like a dark spot on the belt. Then as I apply the stone to the belt, it gets transferred all the way around the belt. I haven't met a stone yet that didn't take a shine with the diamond paste.

Thanks! It sounds like you use just a small amount in one spot and transfer it around with the stone. The illustration in my book showed about 50 dots of paste on an 8" pad, so if I'm understanding correctly that would be way too much?

Sandy, a little goes a long way when it comes to diamond paste. Try half as many but rub it in with your finger, otherwise it may just fly off the disc when you start the machine.

Eds spot on, Diamond paste will go a long way. Sometimes i dont load my latter grit belts for months, and when i do. i cringe if i put on too much. becasue too much paste can grab the stone and through it out of your hand very eaily. When i do laod a belt, i do spin the wheel with my left hand, as i apply a tiny amount of paste using the seringe in the right hand. i then proceed and rub in the excess.
I then use the biggest cab, or the toughest cab in the batch getting worked, to further spead out the paste and remove excess paste if there is any. always trying to somehow work it back in, or wiping it off the cab if it really biulds up.

When using the 50,000 grit on a leather belt and after applying the diamond paste, do you run the belt dry? Or, do you have run wet?
Thanks, Cal

That's the nice thing about using diamond paste. You run the belt dry, no fuss no mess.
