here are a few that i have been working on, the three smaller ones i got from Lizard181 (where has she been?) that she'd sent from her dear grandpa's estate. plus a Memorial Day 30x40 BigSur Jade from Tony, a roundelle of Carasite and a superb piece of fossilized fern (?) from Stefan. unfortunetly, the Stefan cab has a few natural pits, but it's still pretty, here is the whole batch: here is a close up of Tony's Jade and Grandpa Wilbur's gems: here is the carasite, don't you know this little naughty boy chipped coming off the dop: and here is the very nice piece from Steffie: shame about the pits, you want me to mount it anyway, Stef and send it back to you? Ooooooooo those are so nice, I love the carasite, that's really pretty. Did it chip on the backside, I don't see anything but shine on the front. Those little gems of Grandpa Wilburs are really nice. How the heck you work anything that small?

Pits are a concern really in all included agates or jaspers. Those are very nice cabs those, i love how the Montana kinda glows, which when set with a silver back, it really glows. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, they are all good. That carasite is wild! Any chance you could epoxy the pits in Stef's cab and repolish?

You know i missed the Carasite. The piece you mention sure looks like Gray Green Jasper. I seen allot of carasite and never with that color blue/green. The carasite with green would be more olive or muddy pea green color. Still nice cabs no matter what the material is exactly.

kd for one thing we are seeing the cabs from something akin to looking at them under a microscope so the pits are way magnified with the camera close up. the cab is awesome even with the pits. if we weren't seeing it being held by gulliver's hands we probably wouldn't notice them. and i am in no way saying your hands look manly but if i hold my hand up there the cab is bigger than my whole hand. you could try some crazy glue or that hot stuff in them but it's really beautiful just as is. i don't see where the larsonite chipped? they are all super! kim

Man, there goes one of your karma points Kim! Excellent cabs KD. I had to take a double take on the cab from stephan's material because it looks likethe same slab he sent me and I cut an almost exact same cab out of it. In fact he just posted a pic of it in his last post in the photos section. The jade looks great too, you got a great shine on it, and that's not an easy thing to do. Everyone of them looks great.

that is very generous of you, Stefan, let me finish the back (to make sure i don't muck it up) and i will put it up for grabs. Liz, would any of the family want those little gems as keepsakes? PM me and i will send them back to you, the backs are not finished, but they would look good mounted by a pro. you know i got the Larsonite and Carasite at the same time, that could be the Gary Green (Larsonite), but i got to tell you Shain, the carasite had some wild greens and blues too. and i got this from Serendipity Artist (Vaughn) aka gems24 and he knows his stone. Cher, that chipped just at the edge and i was careful to photo it without showing the chip, i'm gonna try the "cabosave" manuever and see if i can't make it work. thanks for all your comments! KD

Ooooooo cool slabs! That color is just wild isn't it. KD If you mount that will it cover the chip? It's such a pretty stone and you did such a nice job on it.

They are all real nice work but the colors and finish on the carasite is impressive. I vote for trying to save it.

I think I can say truly, that Grandpa Wilburs family would want us to keep what we have & enjoy while we can! I was at their house on Memorial Day & doing my usual walkaround. Everytime I go there, I see new amazing stuff. Besides the rockhound rocks being 2 & 3 feet deep in some areas, I started actually seeing a gazillion pre-forms, tons of cut slabs, (plumes, dryheads, polkadot, malachite, tigereye, you name it!) and I even found FINISHED cabs from teeny to bigger than half dollars and it was all in their flower beds!
