I just finished this load, and I must say, I'm quite pleased with the results. These beauties are Orland Jaspers from Orland California. They come in a variety of bright colors ranging from reds, yellows, greens, blues, purples and oranges. Most are brecciated and many have nice agate and marcasite inclusions. I did these as a sample batch in my 3 lb Thumlers Model T. They went for 20 day's in 60-90, (recharged every 5 days) 7 day's in 220, 7 day's in 600 and finished up in less than 5 days with Titanium Oxide. To any who were wondering in a previous tread, Titanium Oxide is amazing! I think I'm going to do a load in the 15 lb tumbler next time. I have plenty more of these rocks if anybody wants some. Just let me know. Thanks for looking!

Hay James those looked great. I will be very happy if my first batch comes out half as good as yours did. Again they look great.

Great pics james - can I stick them on the main site? Along with a few of your words from the post there?
Cheers Andy

Where is Orland, California? Did you collect the rocks yourself or where did you purchase them. I'm beginning to think that running my first batch with just misc. rocks laying around was not a great idea. I think I need to practice on something that is more likely to turn out well, especially to try to convince my husband that the time and money I'm investing in tumbling is worth it.

Really nice.
Very high quality rough I'd say...
Tell us about the source...Most of it looks like the stuff I pick up on the beachs in the Northwest, but I'll admit that I haven't been able to produce jasper that nice...yet.
Great work!

Mudd:I collected these rocks myself at Black Buttes reservoir.
Orland Califorinia lies about 100 miles north of Sacramento up I-5. Take the second exit, turn left and follow the road about 15 miles in to Black Buttes reservoir. The rock is somewhat diffucult to locate, so time must be invested to find larger amounts. I spent a whole day there before I found the mother lode,an eroded area on the banks of the reservoir only accessable to 4-wheel drive vehicles. But I can tell you, the persistance really paid off. I came home with around 200 lbs. of choice matterial. Every bolder of jasper is different from the next. The varieties are endless. The pictures only reflect a small portion of what I have.
I'm going to run a 15 lb load next time with my best stuff. But thats still a couple months down the road...

Trylobyte: The entire area where I collected this rock is very productive. Most of the land however, is on private property. But if you pull off the road leading to the reservoir, one can find some good material in the road cuts. The main collecting area is the eroded banks of the reservoir and the eroded canyons of the surrounding foothills. Most of the material is small brecciated chunks of jasper ranging from pebbles to fist size with an occasional 15-20 lb bolder here and there.
