It will be 5 years that I've worked doing the same job in February. I've been doing the job of now 4 people but being paid for less than 1. For 3 years now I've been asking for help at our fiscal year end (March 31) (I work in finances) and they've promised and never delivered. Well I got offered a job elsewhere (still pretty busy but I'll have help) and I took it - refusing a promotion where I am currently in the process (it was only for 4 months - double the workload for an extra $5/day - no thanks!) Now they're offering things right & left trying to get me to stay (too late! I'd even refuse a permanent promotion at this point - cuz I know that the work will only get worse down the road and I don't want to be part of it!) Well now they're in a bind since it seems that they'll be short staffed themselves now that I'm leaving and at year end too - darn, I'm so sorry! I haven't burned my bridges with them since I've given them more than enough time to find a solution - turns out I was a shoe-in for the promotion - I was the one they really wanted - but they also had overtime on Saturdays from January through April - excuse me I have a life! If I took holidays, I'd come back and have the work piled up since no one would do it in my place. I was at first a little worried that I had made the wrong decision but now I'm totally sure that it was the right thing for me to do. And I found out that things will only get worse from now on - my position would have undergone major changes in duties and not for the better either. I start February 4th and I can't wait ;D-

Congrats Tweet! Funny how some employers tend to lose sight of whats really important for their business until its too late. I live in a right-to-work state and a large number of employers here treat their employees pretty poorly. Glad to hear you're making a change for the better. Good luck.

Sounds like you made the right decision. Some employers just don't get it! And then they wonder why they get in the binds they do. Oh well! Good luck with your new job!

Tweetie you did good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like a "big fat screw you" tale any day when a person isnt being treated right. Tweetie stick by your guns and enjoy and savor the "bye bye" with two fingers in the air pointing right in their faces. Mark

Where I work, they tell us that you 'owe it to your co-workers' to fill in on days when people are sick/missing, whatever. They try to guilt you into working on your days off. I never work a day I don't have to. Do I feel guilty? Nope. I figure management gets paid more than I do, THEY can actually work for a day. Besides, they ran the place before I came, they should be able to run that day without me. They were just going to use you up, Tweets. Good that you are gone. The company loyalty thing was gone a long time ago, right along with the hard working janitor becoming president of the company someday-----

Well I have a little update: They're now scrambling to find a replacement for me... no takers - the two girls who got the promotion to each take on a part of my work came by to check out my workload and freaked out! (that made my Friday!) they told their boss that I had too much work for BOTH of them! (yet I was doing it alone!) they're now trying to find someone who could be trained until they find someone... no takers there either (isn't that too bad)
To top it all off, they asked if I could do some overtime after work so that my work will be completed when I leave - ummm... No! I don,t think so! Sorry, I fell bad for you, but, ah ...no!
They're really piling on the work lately too, but the more new stuff they pile on, the more old stuff they,ll have to deal with once I leave - darn! Plus, I seem to be working slower lately, people are asking if they can come with me... hehe
Another woman I've dealt with is changing departments, and said that she'd try to get me to go over to help her if she's allowed to hire anyone. That makes me feel good!

good for you tweet ;D....thats letting them have it ;D.
but at the same time...i would have probably let you go at the same time....i knew you were leaving....for the simple reason you stated...you slowed down ;D..... and i would have known that was coming ;D....but there is 1 big difference.....you said no one to to do what you do ;D....so that made a point ;D
there are some good guys left out here...take note slydog...i have spent 25 years at the same job....i know a lot....but at times so little.
i have let my guys off...to attend there son/daughter 4th grade graduation...there grandson/daughter baptism....there dance recitals...and everything in between ;D....and i actually pick up my tools....so they can go do these things ;D.
slydog...yep you are correct...they/we...should be able to do what you do.....fortunatly in my case we can ;D...and have spent many all nighters doing what needs to be done. ;D.
but when all is over....my guys are back at work......thanking us for the time off....and working like dogs....24 hours straight.....sometimes 36 on weekends ...if need be;D.
so we aint as bad as cracked up to be....bosses i mean ;D.
you go getem tweet ;D...kev.

Kev they can't let me go for slowing down (it,s government) one woman hasn't slowed down, she's actually stopped & gone backwards - doing nothing all day (I'm the one taking up her duties - she's been talked to but she's still doing nothing - go figure) I only slowed down after I got the new position - I shouldn't say I slowed down, more like got bogged down with an overflowingl plate of work - I'm not doing them any favors - my health is not worth worrying over that Besides, I have some diamond belts coming, who needs worries when I have rocks to attend to....
