G'day everyone, and HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY for this Saturday the 26th of January.
This is a day when Aussies celebrate everything that is great about being an Aussie.
Utes, barbeques, cricket, mozzies, lamingtons, pavlova, meat pies, eskies, thongs (flip flops to most of you not..um...you know), jackie howies, budgie smugglers (can you guess?), flies, the green and gold, the southern cross, the great Holden vs Ford debate and anything else remotely Australian.
AND because it falls on a Saturday and that is already a day off for most people, we get Monday as a public holiday too! Aussies love a good bludge!
Let me conclude with our REAL national anthem...
AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE! OI, OI, OI! AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE! OI, OI, OI! AUSSIE! OI! AUSSIE! OI! AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE! OI, OI, OI!
Have top Australia Day everyone.
Mike
P.S. Did you know I have been told that Australians are the only people in the world that eat the animals found on their national coat of arms?
Can you guess or work out what they are?

Hope you have a great time. Sounds like the 4th of July holiday that we have here in the states. I'm guessing kangaroo is edible but not sure about the other one.

What, you mean the Brits don't eat unicorns? I've heard of kangaroo steaks before, but not emu. Ostrich is becoming fairly popular here, so I guess emu isn't all that different. Sounds like a fun day! Make a ruckus! -nichole

Have a simply wonderful Aussie Day! [glow=red,2,300]Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi![/glow] I had no idea kangaroos were on the menu! ;D lemonadeland.wordpress.com/2007/02/24/edible-review-the-gunyah-restaurant-at-paperbark-camp/One of the ranches across the road from us raises emus--I understand they make for great steaks and barbeque burgers but they are still on my " haven't tried that yet" list. I just enjoy watching them chase the burros in the field. Oi! Lady B

Oi! We pass an emu farm on our way to our in-laws. They advertise selling the eggs, but I don't know if they sell steaks.
Eating kangaroos? That's like eating Bambi!
And you sure have given us a lot of other terms to google.... mozzies = mosquitoes bludge = avoid work? utes = sedan-based load carrying vehicle lamingtons = (Wikipedia) Lamingtons are sponge cake (or more traditionally, butter cake) cubes, coated in a layer of traditionally chocolate icing then desiccated coconut. They are sometimes served as two halves with a layer of cream and/or strawberry jam between, and are commonly found in Australian outlets such as coffee lounges, lunch bars, bakeries, and supermarkets. The strawberry variety is more common in New Zealand, while a lemon variety has been encountered in Australia. .............. YUM! Sorry, end of vocabulary lesson, I'm catching a flight to Australia!
Happy day - Oi!

Oi! Oi! Oi!
Happy Australia day, Mike. Seen from far away, to me it seems you live in a blessed country. And if I look at your comments about your country, that appears to be truth!

Mike, you will have to bring back your Aussie word contest from way back! That was fun! Creative use of the language, there, on that anthem! It sounds better sung in person, after a few cold ones, haha! We've had some guys here who worked on a combine crew, and gave us a wonderful concert one night.
Oi! Oi! Oi!

"P.S. Did you know I have been told that Australians are the only people in the world that eat the animals found on their national coat of arms?" Must make you proud then Mike. Personally I'd rather live in England. Mark

Mark, living in one of the colonies isn't too bad. Nothing like living in a nation started by a whole stack of unwilling criminals!!!! Mike
