These are so cool. Are the colours true to life? Those pieces in the 5th photo look like they are made of caramel.

Oh that first one is jaw-dropping! LOVE the colour! Where did you get your wood from?

Mike, Yes the colors are true, though the last 2 photos in the first post (Part one) seem a shade redder than they really are. The rest I would say are quite accurate, though I am looking to set up a light that is natural full spectrum as opposed to the 2 old incandesent lamps I am using now. I like the close shots, as I find group shots do not allow the full colors and patterns to be studied as fully, but are nise for an overview. Bill

Titania, All these woods are from the Yellowstone and Gallatin rivers here in Montana. All were self-collected last year. The more highly colored ones are all from the Yellowstone river, in the Eastern portion of the state. Bill

Stefan, Yes, I do find some Montanas, Though last fall was the first time I was able to make it from where I live in SW MT, 400 miles down the Yellowstone to the area that moss/inclusion-bearing agate is found. The pro hunters get the best stuff as the high water from spring runoff recedes, I found lots of "plain" agate, but the wife and I were there a week, so we did find some pretty good stuff as well. Some of which was tumbled with this same batch, I will be posting more photos of agates and some local jaspers as soon as I get photos taken and cropped. The best close-ups are done by shooting at the highest res. possible, and then crop down the photo. I have learned that there are many different types of agate on the Yellowstone, waterline, banded, fortification etc... The Park has had many volcanic events over millions of years, the retreating glaciers left alluvial gravels with all these agates and successive forests that were flattened, covered with ash and silicified. End of speech , I get carried away... I am on a quest to trace the origins of these separate types of agates and woods, I plan to work the tributaries of the Yellowstone to gain more info. Bill

Wow, love this batch! From the colors, I thought you might have gotten some of that gorgeous Aussie pet wood from one80mike. Might have to go see Yellowstone...
