Man! A great actor and a great humanitarian. Can't decide if I liked Slapshot or Cool Hand the best, both were fantastic. "Plastic Jesus" from Cool Hand still makes me smile, irreverent but oh so funny. " Ah don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus sittin on the dashboard of my car"
Also tickled every time I remember why Mr. Newman quit signing autographs. Said the time he was asked for an autograph while at a urinal was the last straw! *LOL* Good for you Mr. Newman for knowing where to draw the line while living in the public eye. I'm sure the Lord is having a chuckle fest with Old Cool Hand at the table right now!.....Mel

Sad, so sad.

Yep, his salad dressing started out as a joke, but the public liked it and every penny he got from it went to the Hole in the Wall Charity. Then he added the BBQ sauce and spagetti sauce and all the rest. All the moneys went to that charity, all of it. He was a special man.
Rest in Peace.

Seemed to be quite a classy person. He is another of the great Hollywood Charity givers. He also distinguished himself in opposing Richard Nixon's policies before it became fashionable and made Richard Nixon's enemies list.
He made many monster movies, The Sting, Butch Cassiddy, Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict, Fort Apache the Bronx, Hombre, The Hustler, The Long Hot Summer, Somebody up there like me....
My personal favorites: I've seen Hombre far too many times and I still love it. I thought the Sting was one of the best ever made, and the Verdict captures the essence of the evils that big enterprises indulge in...
