Wow! Not a clue here but really neat stuff especially those weird jigsaw puzzle pieces. You might try going to fossil web and posting your pics there.....Mel

Man, I am always wrong, but they look to me like baculite sections. We have some of those around here.
I got boxes full of unknowns. ;D

"ammonite pieces" which ones? The top 4 pieces are bone with the marrow missing or in Crystal form. The one marrow is Ironstone from Drumheller.

I still have no idea what that means.. or what they are.. so they actually are something ? or nothing at all? or they were something but not anymore? .. where do they come from? and what are they? and what were they if they were from something or am I just totally lost again.. :serious: *Smiles* Roxy

I'm with you on that one. I find them in the S. Saskatchewan River valleys, as for tumbling they are soft, so not sure if they would take a shine or stand up to the abuse. My daughter does like to use them as Lego's.

Baculites and ammonites deteriorate after being in the sun, cold winters, hot summers-if exposed............. They just plain fall apart into pieces............The ammonites are the pieces that are more rounded on one side than come to a small point on the other end and are curved slightly....................... I use to pick them up,but I just leave them lay now......

Baculites (the pictured ones that fit together) were squid-like sea critters that grew in sections. I had some from So. Dakota that buffed up beauifully and showed amazing patterns on the exterior. Some had opalescent shell still on. The interiors were replaced by calcite. You should buff an exterior nd see what happens. The ones I had looked like nothing until buffed (on my Genie 280, 600, 1200 and 3000 Novas).
