Seeing the mention of templates on Naturenut's thread I thought I would repost these again for those of you who have joined since I first posted them early last year. I have the cab templates shown below that I drew up in a CAD program and am offering them free here. They are in pdf format so anyone can open and print them. Send me a pm and I'll make sure you get a copy. Tony ADMIN EDIT - repaired broken image - original code below:

Very cool offer you have made the RTH members. I live in an AutoCAD world from 9 to 5 in order to support my rock addiction, and have made my own templates the same way.
One suggestion, rather than card stock, I cut my templates out of the HDPE (plastic) lids that come on the large (2 lb size) coffee cans. In addition to rocks, I have a coffee addiction. The HDPE lid cuts easily with a razor knife and is a little more resilient to repeated tracings and especially to water. I usually wet my slabs to see the rock pattern, so water is always an issue when I'm locating a template.
Once again, a very cool offer. Keep on giving.

They look great. And, the idea put forth of using the plastic coffee can lids is a good one. Tony, you have a pm from me! Thanks; Mike

150 that is a really good idea. Do you tape them on then cut? I'll give that a try since I have to cut myself a few of the sheets to replace the ones Bejewelme borrowed from me. Thanks for the tip.
Must be a thing about working in AutoCAD and polishing rocks. I know of at least one other member who uses that program professionally.

Most HDPE can lids are translucent, if not trasparent. Tape the paper template underneath the plastic lid then cut out along the lines with a very sharp razor knife.
Use a ruler for all of your straight cuts, and free hand where you have to.
Don't worry if your cuts in the template aren't perfect. Your preform cuts on the tile saw will be even rougher. The irregular edges all get ground down (one way, or another) in the end.

these templates are top notch! Thank you Tony. I have printed my first one and am trying it on transparency film. I don't know how they'll hold up because the film's quite thin, but I also think it'll be better than paper with the wet rocks. Thank you so much!

I used the stuff they sell in the quilting area of Joannes. It's called template plastic. Just trace them on and cut them out! Thank you Tony!!

Hey Tony thanks for sending over the templates...they are great! I can definitely use some of these shapes. I am going to transfer them onto transparent colored plastic school binders. I had made some about a month ago and the binders hold up well. Thanks again!

Hi Tony,
I'd love to have a set of these templates. For some reason my computer won't let me just PM you, & I can't email you because I don't have your email. I'll go to your wood working website & try to contact you thru that.
Thanks so much for offering these. They're fantastic. ;D
