Well here is the last of the cabs I finished over the last two months. Actinolite. This material reminds me a bit of a poor man's seraphenite, only harder. Blue tiger's eye. These two were originally a tumbled stone but I thought it was too pretty. It was going to be one cab but it delaminated while I was grinding it so it became two. One for me and one for my daughter. Some very brown obsidian from Utah. A piece of carnelian I got from Woodyrock. Its not a cab, it was too odd shaped for that and I really liked the druzy center and outside pattern. Polished side. Natural side. Dendritic opalite (?) Its got a nice druzy pocket in the lower left. Dino bone. Jade. I can't remember where in California this came from. Kyanite. Laguna Mahogany obsidian. Labradorite. This is my favorite of the bunch. It has flash all over it.

Tony: I love the way you often work stones that most of us wouldn't think of working. The actinolite is a good example. I'd have never thought it but that made a very neat looking piece! Got to say though, being a polishable fossil lover, that dinny bone is awesome. Great color and cell pattern both.....Mel

Mel: If it doesn't have a heart beat Tony will cab it! The Actinolite is way more beautiful in person as well as his bone which is my fav, the lab I gave him, it was a slab that was $1 at a show, it came from Madagascar I got all he had and it was all just as beautiful!!!! Great set honey! Amber

Fantastic group cabs there Tony. Have not seen Actinolite before; looks like an interesting stone to work. The Mahogany Obsidian is great but have that much red before.

I had never heard of actinolite before. It looks pretty cool! That mahogany Obsidian really stands out for me but you know, there are so many neat cabs here it is really hard to pick any favorites. I normally get a little creeped out by dino bone...(Just the thought that it is a bone I guess) but this one here looks fantastic! Fran

Thanks all. I bought a flat of actinolite from one of the members of my rock club and I think he said he mined it in Canada but I'm not very sure of that. Once the meetings start up again in the fall I'll get more info on it. This was just a little chip but the photo doesn't do it justice. I managed to slab up about half of the the material, the rest was too soft, more like hard clay. I didn't get a lot of slabs but will check back with him in September and hopefully I can get some more to share here.
Mel, seeing as there aren't many people in this area cabbing most of the rock shows are for collectors. Since there is little acknowledged lapidary materials at these shows I've taken to buying small specimens of things I think are pretty. Some are cabable and others aren't but its fun trying.

Hey Tony, we have it here in PA too. I've found bunches at my collecting spot. Not nearly as nice as yours, but some pieces are cab-able. Now that you know it, keep your eyes out when you're collecting, you never know... Jo

Thanks Jo. There is a possibility that it is from here. I wish my memory were better.

Well, if it is... it's nicer than any I've come across. I'll try to take some pics today, they will pale in comparison to yours. Mindat is saying it's in Canada too, so it's entirely possible.
