Did some cabbing today.
First are some cabs that we picked up here in the North Shore area.
Jaspellite (Jasper and Hematite)
Chinese Writing Stone (porphyry)
Two shades of Red Jasper
And an unknown that I picked up while walking with Angie today on a snow mobile trail.
A Quartzite from Sioux Falls, SD (I'm still on the fence if it's Aventurine)
And this is one I've been wanting to cab for a while... It's Jelly Bean from NancyID. What great stuff!
The first pic is of my Billy cabbing a special agate. The kind gentleman who manages the park here came by and brought a cigar box full of agates for me to look at. His name is Teddy and the agates belonged to his grandson who passed away 8 years ago. He drowned in Lake Superior while wind surfing. He was 25. His grandson had two tumblers and made picture frames with agates attached like Marie's and sold them at resorts in the area. Bill asked if Teddy would like me to make him a pendant out of one of the rocks and Teddy said yes. It was so sweet and I said I would be honored to do so.
I wrapped one of his tumbled agates in copper last night (sorry, no pic). Hard as I tried, it still didn't look masculine enough, so I made a swirly and gave it to him for his daughter, the mother of the beloved young man who loved agates.
So, this morning, Billy and I chose an unpolished good sized agate chunk to hand cab from the tattered cigar box, and Bill went to work. Here is the finished stone. We glued on a silver Aanraku bail.
The front, with lots of reflection, but I thought it looked cool.
The front and back, backlit
Thanks for looking!
