Finally got these finished. They all ran about the same time in 60/90 (a long time!), a week or more in 220, same with 500, 3 weeks in prepolish and a bit over 2 weeks in polish. I used different polishes to see which put on a better shine. This batch was polished with Tin Oxide On a different background This batch was polished in SureLuster. Most of these rocks were rocks Marie sent me. Quartz, jasper, agates, Lake Superior agates On a white background I think the SureLister put a shinier polish on them. What say you? I have two more batches running in Borax for 24 hrs. They were polished in the generic polish from my local rock shop and C. Oxide Will post them when they are finished. Here are the batches out today. First batch were polished in ghe generic polish from Alamo Rock Shop (no longer in biz) Different background The next one done in C. Oxide. This batch has a lot of pits, cracks, etc. in them even after weeks and weeks in 60/90 - but I have a project to use them on where the flaws won't show. Same batch, purple background

It looks like the Sureluster did a little better job to me as well. All are shiny.

I'd say Sureluster squeeked by on that comparison. I've never tried either of the two polishes, just alum oxide but after seeing your great results on high silica content stones I would be willing to try 'em.

You have some beautiful stones with a wonderful shine. I use Aluminum Oxide now since I wasn't too happy with Cerinium Oxide. Some prefer the CO, I know that is what Ralph uses on his cabs (Stonesthatrock) and they don't come much better. Perhaps it has more to do with the stones being tumbled.

I don't have any alum oxide polish, or maybe the Alamo Shop polish is alum oxide. They said it was "generic", so who knows. Puts a nice shine on, whatever it is.
The SureLuster seems to put the best polish on almost all stones. That's the reason I bought it. Got it many years ago and just rediscovered it sitting on the shelf way in the back. Good thing I still have quite a bit of it cause these days it cost $14.95 a pound!

llana2go, you've got some great looking stones there! Thanks for sharing your experiment with us. Looks like some SureLuster is in my future.
