I haven't been doing a lot of tumbling lately - too many other irons in the fire. But, a couple months ago, I did start a batch in the 4.5lb Lortone. I just threw in all the end cuts and chunks from the slab saws, and then I cut up some purple agate chunks, and added some junk rocks I use for filler, and a couple handsful of ceramics, and let it spin. Recharged weekly. Then I had it turning with polish for 2 weeks, and they just didn't want to polish. So yesterday I cleaned the barrel out, and threw everything in the vibe with some "Super Cerium" and ran it 24 hours. So here's what came out tonight.
These are saw remains and end cuts from some thundereggs I've slabbed up.
Some obsidian - some little pieces I've had lying around, and the stuff from dressing the saw with it
Some purple agate and maybe some boysenberry agate - just wanted to see how it polishes. I'll probably recut and cab some of the bigger boxy pieces, it's so purty.
A few bigole hunks of some cruddy quality jadeite I've had lying around for over a year - it didn't polish very well, but I didn't really expect it to.
A bunch of various flavors of pet wood, mostly from the slab saw.
End cuts from a few Arizona red jasper rocks I've slabbed - this stuff polishes brightly, but it's loaded with pits - don't know if I want to cab it or not
A few pieces I think I'll reshape and cab - don't necessarily know what they are, but they're pretty nice
I cabbed this a year ago, and never could get a great shine on it - a decent shine, but not great. So I thought I'd toss it in and see if it would shine up better. IT didn't.
A little end-cut from a big, flat tiger eye rock that I slabbed - I love that it has both gold and blue fire inside - most of the slabs from this one (and there were a lot) have the same colors. Not real big, but really pretty.
And then the "junk" that I've used a number of times as filler.
Well, I hope y'all enjoyed my little picture show, and thanks for looking!
