dino bone - solid, but not much color I had this 6" round, 4" thick section of leg bone or some such. As I recall I lucked into it for about $10. Very solid, but dark black/gray with very small cells. Kept passing it over for the last 2 years. Finally decided to cut along the bone (instead of across) to see if I got better cell structure. I would say I did, but they are still not real exciting slabs. Very solid and well agatized, but drab colors in clear agate. A few areas show some promise. Here are the two orientations: ... and a pic of the part still uncut. Might leave it as a specimen.

Tho color is nice to have in Dino bone, but it really doesn't matter to kids. I used to make jewelry out of the drab pieces, set in inexpensive findings. Then give it as presents to young kids. The kids were just as excited as they would have been if it were top grade gem bone. Great show and tell material for them to take to school.

Since dinosaurs are a favorite with my grandsons, I wore my dino bone pendant and told them what it was. They didn't believe me! Next year..... they might.
