Howdy folks, Today I had some time and managed to nurse my saw through the first two hunks of the pet wood I collected last week down near Three Rivers, TX. Here are a few pics.....Mel This was a strange spindle shaped hunk my wife picked up. Looks like some kind of root mass but I'm thinking maybe just some kind of plant with a trunk in that shape. Not real colorful but strange pattern. More pink on the other end so I may cut on it again. Closer look. Little round vascular bundles through the face of the piece but some are filled in with white agate kind of like that stuff Matt Dillon calls pocket rot wood. I'm clueless as to what this might be except it looks to be a monocot so may be some kind of palm or fern. This one was a surprise. It was elongate and kind of nondescript but turned out to be highly agatized palm. Closer:

Yep, Nate it is a busy one. I kind of like the blue/lavender more agatey parts. I'm still getting used to this Texas wood. Really strange stuff and almost all partly decomposed before it was replaced by quartz. Very unlike what we had back in California which was buried in volcanic ash and much more of a complete cellular replacement. Tell you what though, both are a bee-atch to saw. Man pet wood is hard stuff to cut!......Mel

Both are cool looking. The first reminds me of light coming through a burlap overhang and the second should make a cool cab out of the white area and another in that red to gray area. Really nice! Fran
