Howdy folks,
Just got my new drive belts from Covington and installation is not that easy so I thought I'd post a thread telling those of you who have not had to face this problem how it is done.
First off, when you measure your dead belt it will measure like 23 1/2 inches but you order the 24" belt. To install the new belt, look and you will see two larger bolts that hold your motor to the saw carriage. Remove the top bolt but "do not" remove the lower bolt, just loosen it. If you totally remove it , you'll have an awful time getting it back in place as it sits behind the motor in a very tight space. You will need a very skinny long handled open end wrench to get to the bolt behind the saw and loosen it up, as with everything on this saw, space to work is always cramped.
Once you have the upper bolt out and the lower bolt loosened, you can raise the motor up and brace it in that position. I simply used a hunk of pet wood. Once the motor is raised, it shortens the distance between the pulleys so with two hands you should be able to put the belt in place. Then simply remove your block and lower the motor back into it's original position. Brian at Covington says the motor weight in it's lowered position puts the proper tension on the belt. Then line up and reinstall the top bolt and tighten both upper and lower bolt, replace guard and you're ready to go. I also had them send a couple of spare belts so I won't have the down time next time one burns up. Happy to be cutting again....Mel

Thanks for posting this, Mel. Having an older 10" Covington, I'm sure the belt will go soon.
