Howdy folks, Well got my new belt on the saw and tried it out on a couple of pieces of Texas shrinkwood. Sorry about the lousy pics. I get too impatient and there's still oil on the rocks so I can't get them wet for photos....Mel This is the single slab I got from the rock that burnt up the belt last week. Dig the agate replacement between the wood sections. really like this one! Palm shrinkwood. If you look along the edge of the bottom of the slabs you can see a little palm fiber pattern remaining. Closer look:

Okay - I like the shrinkwood, but these are my favorite slabs you've cut so far.
I really like the agate (as you mentioned) that's come in between the sections.

Lowell, I think from all the stuff I've ever cut, I'm enjoying this Texas wood as much as any other material. I love fossils and I love surprises and you virtually never know what you're going to find inside this stuff. The only frustration involved is my lack of knowledge as to what the heck some of these woods are. A surprising number seem to not be dicots and I can only surmise that the Texas wood area millions of years ago must have been one heck of a tropical forest with lots of kinds of palms, ferns, tropical trees etc that no one has written about. And you of all folks know how much I've just got to put a label on every rock I find *LOL*....Mel

They are fantastic Mel. If you havn't,google Catahoula formation. That is the geologic formation that is in Louisiana with the palm there and runs through our county on down through the Three Rivers vicinity on down to Mexico. This isnt a very wide band and roughly follows the coastline. There is much information about it and some very interesting reading. I never got through all the information on it. Just wanted to throw that in.
