Hi All,
I was curious if people would be willing to share their method of storage of slabs and other rough materials. I have been using some plastic storage bins, but still feel that there is a better way to do it. Something that will either allow me better organization or at least make better use of my space and maybe allow me to better see what I have. I've thought about making a digital catalog (with pics), but I am concerned about the amount of work involved. Any recommendations/thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated!!

You will see many good ideas on here. The best storage for slabs I have are two index card filing cabinets that I got free on craigslist, the guy wanted them gone. If a person checks around they should be cheap as they are no longer needed,if they havnt been tossed out already. We have an online auction here that sells surplus and outdated things from school districts around here, many filing cabinets cheap . Check your area. Also,if you have a local office supply company, they may have them in their warehouse gathering dust. snuffy

For slabs I use the clear plastic shoe storage boxes. They're inexpensive, have secure snap on lids and are made to stack. A big plus at my age is that no one box weighs more than I can comfortably carry. Most of my rough is stored in plastic buckets, but I also have a pair of file cabinets that I salvaged from a dumpster.

I use these storage shelves that have bins. They hold a lot and have provisions for labels. I used to use plastic shoe boxes but it seemed that what I wanted was always in the last box that I looked in and it was always on the bery bottom of the stack. A lot of wasted time and effort. I got these storage bins/shelves at Costco. Bob

I always had in mind to have a rotating metal nail bin like they have in hardware stores, but havn't run across one yet, thought that would be neat to store rocks in.The new ones are rather pricey for me.

Man Bobby! How come the floor is so clean? Is your rock storage in a different place then where you work? Or is this uber cleanliness the key to why you have the best cabs around?!
