Yeah the saw he got was almost identical to the one I bought for $50. Needs a little work but no biggie. My own design of rock vises worked out great too. Keeps hands in the clear. I`ll post pics tomorrow of some of what we cut. Then he can post the ones he brought home that we cut. The saw cut as smooth as can be too. I do believe though that a segmented blade may be in order to cut seome of this harder stuff. We picked up a little corundum at the rock shop to tumble. I sure am seeing a lot of blue in most of my pieces. One is ruby but a small one. Had a good visit at the rock shop with the ladies and picked up some nice agates. They are moving locations soon so it`s time to haul tons of rock across town and I plan on being there when they get to the last where they may just give a lot away. A good day in all!

Hey Joe. I was wondering where these rock shops in Austin are,or where they are moving to.I go to Round Rock a couple times a year for grandkids birthdays. Also, you know of anyone thats been to the Red Rose rockshop in Johnson City? Also,I had heard in the past about a rock yard in Georgetown.

Joe, I have the same question as Snuffy - where's the rock shop you go to? My daughter and family live in Hutto, and I go up there 4-5 times a year. Went to the "Nature's Treasures" shop in Georgetown last visit, but it wasn't what I was looking for - all finished pieces, no rough to speak of.

Hey guys, the Natures Treasures rock shop in north Austin is where I go to. It`s at Braker and Kramer at 2307 Kramer Lane. It is in a building with Texas Office Products like the old one downtown. Their main business is office furniture there until they move in about a month. The lapidary shop will be next to the main rock shop. It will be at the location of the old Academy store on I-35 close to 51st St. The address there is 4103 N. I-35 across from the old Sears in Hancock Center. Oct. 1 will be a sale they have each year. They take trucks to Denver and fill up on some great rock. They`ll have a truckload sale straight from the trailers. At the Kramer store right now they are 25% off on rough, trying to reduce what they have to move. There is a pile about 6 ft around and 2 ft. high of assorted stones for $4 lb. with some nice stuff in it. They tell me that Montana agates will soon be going up in price as will the chopsticks agates. And silver they tell me will be sky high in near future. I will be repairing a polisher for the lapidary manager so I probably will barter for merchandise instead of money. She is a very nice and knowledgeable lapidary artist with numerous certifications from gemnist ass. But don`t forget Lorene in Smithville. Allen picked up a dozen Brazilian and Montana agates for $1.60 lb. on his way home. I will be getting notified when truckload sale is happening so I`ll pass on the info when available.

Wow, $50 for a 10 Lapidary saw. I was bidding on an 8" with no motor and I quit at $162.50. Appears it went for $165.50. I had gone to bed by that time. It wasn't over until midnight and I am a morning person. Now I am looking again.

This is the white agate that came out very nice. I don`t plan on slicing anymore from this but just leave it whole. I have some gray ones really similar. Attachments:

I totally love this one! The crystalized center is super hard. It took a long time to cut it. I do plan on slicing from this one. Mostly we were trying to get a look at some of the rocks we had and what surprises may await. I have so many it`s going to take awhile to see what all I have worth slabbing. I`ll post some more later. Computer is screwing up on me so I need to clean it up real good. Attachments:

Almost forgot this piece. It is from some of the plain looking dark brown pet wood found in southern regions of Texas. The inside is much prettier than the outside for sure. Attachments:
