Well, I have been cutting some preforms from some slabs I had. It took me a while to get the hang of what I was doing and I am loving it. I don't have too many rocks that will fit on the saw but I have found a few. It will only cut 1 1/4 " but it cuts. Here is a picture of my first batch. Some Unakite, some petrified wood, some Dynasty Jasper that came in the traveling box. Some slabs I bought from Stoneviews and others. Some are stones I broke while drilling so they have now been cut and ready to tumble again. I'll tumble all of these. Thanks for looking. Tanya

Krystee I got the little saw from Home Depot for $88. I wanted a lapidary saw but I lost the bid on ebay. This one did the trick. Frog & Bear I am so hooked. I loved being able to cut my own preforms. Thanks so much Don! Daniel, I don't have anything for grinding but I have ordered a vibe tumbler from John's Gems, it will be here on Monday so I will run them in my Rotary tumblers until smooth enough and them finish them in the vibe. Can't wait. It will be so much better than waiting 9 weeks to get through the polish stage. Ain't life GREAT! Tanya

Thanks all so very much. Kev you have helped me immensely with your guidance, Tandl now I can cut some of those great rocks I got from you.
Chaplady, it is a QEP 7 " from Home Depot and it only cost $88. I was guided to that one by several people on the RTH.
Tom, I don't want it to end. I love it!

Sweet cuts! I was afraid to cut things at first but once you get started you realize you can do it and it is so much fun! I always wear a dust mask and safety glasses though. The chips can fly faster than you can blink and the dust can get into your lungs so stay safe and have fun! If you don't have a vinyl apron, a trash bag will work to keep you from getting soaked. Welcome to the fun! Fran

Thanks to you all who inspired me, seeing what you had all done. I have been outside all morning until I realized it is 1:30 and I best eat something. Anyway I found some of the most beautiful soft green agate and some Black with Pink, don't know if it is Rhodonite, Rhodocrosite or anyway one of those I think. It's beautiful. I am having a ball and I hate to quit but I have to now. Tanya

Tanya, I'm sure someone has already said something about this, but just in case nobody has ... even though you don't have grinding/sanding equipment yet, you still can put the bevels on the edges of your preforms with the QEP saw - the diamond on the sides of the blade can be used like a little grinder, to grind down the edges of the cab into a bevel shape. If you don't use too much pressure, it will last a surprisingly long time! Then, when you finish them in the vibe, they won't be quite so flat.
