Having access to tool and die equipment makes everything easier doesnt it. lol I unfortunatly dont but my cousin does so it all works out in the end. Still looks like a great job so far.

OK and now the rest of the story finally... So when I got it onto it's own cart I went ahead and put mine on the first cart and got it going so I could cut rocks while I was out in the garage. Plus I used it to figure out the auto shut off and motor mount. Time to start putting it together. Switch and auto shut off Motor Mounting And ready to go to it's new home. Lee

VERY nice rebuild! I really liked the shutoff switch...much more simple than the original, and less likely to get oil inside. Woody

Just wanted to thank Lee for a fantastic job on the saw, can't wait till we get to do some cutting. We decided to give it a tear down and repaint it a metallic flake dark blue. Have to get some info from Lee but I it seems that I can remove pretty much everything but the arbor and not threaten the alignment. The rails don't look to be adjustable so I am hoping that it will come apart without too much grief. Othwerwise it will be a lot of careful taping to prevent overspray. Might have to post a couple photos afterward just for the sake of continunity. I was shocked at how nice it turned out...and am not at all ashamed to say I immediately put a bug in his ear to rebuild/customize our 20" Hillquist ;D Nice to have a pro in your neighborhood

I would just spray the outside if it was me (or leave it gray). If I were to repaint I would try to find the original gold and green. I've seen them in the Hammered Finish shaker cans. After use it will likely be an oily color.

Nice work Lee, that looks fantastic! I'd agree with just painting the outside. A lighter color inside (until the rock snot & oil covers it) will offer better viewing.

Yes, the intention was to leave the light grey interior though we might do the inside of the hood in the dark blue. Ultimately I realize it will be totally gunked up in short order but one thing my carpet has taught me, dark colors are preferable when things get messy
