Finally got a chance to start cutting this hunk of Mookaite today. I'll add pics of slabs later today, after I wash the oil off. First 10 slabs. Many to go. Don

This is the first time I've cut Mook. I expected it to be much slower cutting. Maybe it's that new BD - 303 S blade I bought from John.

A good blade makes the difference

The only drawback to the good blade is, for every 2 slabs I cut, I loose 1 to curf waste. That 16" blade is almost 1/8" thick.

Very cool! I hear ya on the blade thickness. I've got some 303's, but still use my cheap Kingsley North blade because it's 1/2 the thickness. It cut's fair, I've been using it for a couple years. Oh, those slabs are nice!!

I gave up on the Covington gold blade that came with my saw. I'll save it for cutting a 25 Lb hunk of neon blue and purple obsidian that I've had for years. Those Covington blades are only fit for cutting softer materials.

Neon blue obsidian? ? When are you going to cut it? I would love to see what that looks like!! Got any pictures?

I have a few small pieces that I cut from a smaller hunk. I'll see if I can find them tonight. I may have to find someone with a larger saw to cut this one in half. I don't think it'll fit my 16" saw as is.

Thanks, sounds intriguing! I didn't realize obsidian came in so many forms! I had always thought of obsidian as black. Then I found out about mahogany, snowflake, rainbow, royal purple sheen, silver sheen, gold sheen & now neon blue. What next?
