Good morning All! I was going thru some of the slabs that are buried in 5gal buckets in the shop and, ran across this piece. I was just wondering if, in the combined wealth of knowledge in this forum, if maybe someone might have an idea of what it is. It's around mohs 7 and not transparent at all. Was a rock that cooled very fast as the crystals are in the cryptocrystalline range. thanks for lookin....gr

Ted, No igneous because of the rapid cooling structure (cryptocrystalline) and If I remember right, a file is 7 on the mohs scale and it barley scratches it. Yes ,it has a white crust all the way around it. kind of a hard crust at that. What are ya thinkin?

The greenish part kind of throws me. Otherwise, I'd guess dumortierite in quartz, though I'm used to seeing it a bit more denim blue....Mel

Did you hound this Gary ? Dumo `s streak is white . Dumo can be green, blue ,violet, pink, brown, And can be more than one color in the same rock . deposits have been found near Yuma , AZ, , Near Oreana , Nevada . So north and south of ya .

I have a whole lot of Dumo from the SE CA and Yuma area and none of it is green. Hard to see from the picture but my guess Wyoming Jade. Don
