12 inch would be borderline if you were able to lay it flat at 4 1/2 inches tall, 14 or 16 would be better. You could probably start at one of the small ends and cut till you reach blade capacity, then turn it and continue to whittle away if you could make it fit the vice in the first place.

I'd say a 16" saw. Don't think those measurements will fit the vice in anything smaller.

Unless you need large slabs, use some other method (drilling, angle grinder ... etc) to block it, and then slab the blocks on a 10" or 12" saw.
When cabs are the goal, it is very hard to justify the equipment and waste to start with large (i.e., 8x8) slabs.

I have a few big 'uns here too, and my plan is taking it to the local rock shop, who charge $2 of so a cut, and have them cut it into 1/4's to fit in my future 10" saw. HECK of a lot cheaper than a big saw, and I never have to clean it up! Yeah, I'm waiting too, to see what the new Highland Park 10" is like.
