I am very happy with the way this rock is cutting. When I cut the rest of the slabs, I will offer a couple here.

My 86 year old aunt & uncle live in Morgan Hill. About a year ago they bought my mom a small Poppy Jasper pendant which cost them around $200, nothing fancy. I told my uncle for Xmas I'll buy him some bolt cutters and a pick. He can find the mine and get some rough for me. Told him it would supplement his SSI income and we can make some wire wraps for my aunt & mom. Looking forward to see your finished slabs.

Mel did go to the Reidels booth, we talk about it after the show. I was invited to their house to buy poppy jasper, bought a couple hundred pounds. I usually take the slabs and drop them on the concrete, and what survives the fall, I cab! I've recently gotten a few chunks that were mined in the old days in areas where there wasn't much fractures in the rock, it's a pleasure to cab that stuff and not have a fracture show up in the 1200 stage! Some I got at Bill Mercer's estate sale.

You sure do get a hold on some amazing material! It's always a pleasure to see what you slice up! Fran

nice slabs !!!! I must note that that style vice looks so easy compared to my vertical one ! Is it ? easy as 123 ? the conforming/tilting plate on top does offer some flexability, but sometimes it lets the rock slide instead of clamping. wether the plates are top/bottom or front/back, nothing beats flatish areas on the rock. Some rocks always seem like they would be better in the other type of vise.
