My Star Diamond 10" has suddenly developed a strange issue...the blade no longer fits in the slot on the tabletop. the blade is not bent, rather it seems that the arbor that drives the blade has pushed out, changing the position of the blade. Any ideas?

A pic would help. I had a star diamond for a short time but I don't remember how the arbor bearings mounted. I would first find out where the bearings are and see if they are fixed to the arbor shaft or if there is a collar that keeps the shaft from moving from side to side. My guess is it's as simple as repositioning it and re-tightening whatever it is that holds it in place, unless the bearing came apart.

I think the bearings are pressed on and in a housing. See if the whole housing moved.

don't think that arbor can move. blade might be dished.

I've tried fitting two different blades. neither blade will line up with the slot in the table now. I was cutting rocks last night, stepped out for a sec, came back in and the blade was stopped, tight against the slot. the rock was still in the vise and hadn't shifted so far as I could see. I removed the top and fitted on my spare blade, but to my surprise, I couldn't get the top to line back up to the screw holes with the new blade in place. I can't see that the housing is bent/dented or anything. it seems to me that some how the threaded part on the arbor has moved.

If the shaft moved that much the belt pulley would be out of lline also. Is it out by the width of the threads? If so did you lose a spacer between flange washer and housing? What keeps the inner flange washer where it is?

hmm...the pulley was out of line also, infact almost falling off. I had to tap it back in place. Yes, I suspect the fit is out by the space of one thread too far. I don't remember anything going between the flange and the threaded part of the arbor, it's always been right up next to it since I've had the saw.

should those threads be sticking out? maybe that's my problem. I wonder, can the bearing assemblies on these be replaced or do I have to replace the entire bottom unit?

Those threads run opposite to the blade rotation. They're meant to pull oil and sludge away from the bearings. Check to see if the bearings are held in with snap rings. If a snap ring breaks and falls out, the bearings can move over time. Also, take the belt off and check for end play.

Barranca (same as Star Diamond)sold the arbor assy as a unit (bearings, shaft, flange washers, nuts). They still had them last year although the saw was discontinued. The same unit was used on both the 10" and 6" saws (both now discontinued). If you need it and they are out of them I have the source info somewhere in my notes. You don't have much to lose. I would put a wood block on the shaft end and try to tap it in a little. If it does have a snap ring it will have a groove to hold it in place. If it is like the bearing Gy-Roc uses on their saw it is a water pump type bearing that looks like two bearings together. Gy-Roc is press fit, no snap rings.

Thank John, I'll check with BD and see if they have a replacement assembly. I think these bearings are press fit, I don't see any place for snap rings.

Tell them you need the arbor assy for a PF10/TS6. Get a part number, price, and if available. I should be able to get you a small (10%) discount at least.
