Awesome agate but I'd say it's a very blue Las Choyas Nodule out of Mexico. Lots of them are geodes but some of the solids show very nice blue color and those fortifications. Blue Lace is a vein type material out of Namibia. Got to say that's one of the nicest Las Choyas I've ever seen though.....Mel

Yep, most all Las Choyas do. Lots of agate and chalcedony from the southwest and Mexico fluoresces. Las Choyas often have a calcite exterior so may show orange on the shell and yellow green inside depending on wavelength....Mel

Hmmm. So far as I know most all do and I'd say yours is definitely a Las Choyas. I suspect either the wavelength was not right or yours is an exception. Matter of fact, I thought most all agate and chalcedony that does not contain overabundance of included iron shows fluorescence at some level, again, usually yellow green. Too much iron kills the fluorescence.....Mel

Geoff, that's a great story AND an amazing agate! We cut several thousand Las Choyas geodes and nodules at our Club Show this year and none had so fine a pattern as your boss's legacy agate.
Thanks for sharing it with us!
Best regards, Kris Hand-2-Mouth Mining

On my monitor it looks to be flurescing blue under the long wave and some agate does fluoresce blue or maybe it just looks that color under long wave. Zenz's Agates II shows several examples with similar blue coloration. Very odd but I'd still stand by Las Choyas as an ID though. I've got a number of Las Choyas nocules and good UV light but no battery. I''ll have to see if I can find me a battery ( do they even make those giant square looking batteries anymore?) and test mine..Mel
