Howdy folks, Was out the other day breaking up a bunch of rough for the tumbler. I had a big hunk of palm root from Yermo, Calif that was heavily fractured so I figured why not tumble it but, when I worked it down to the core, I found a few pounds in one hunk that are really solid and unfractured. So this hunk will go to the saw. The roots in this piece are really well preserved and show all the internal structure of the roots. Wish it was more colorful but the Yermo stuff is usually earthtoned. Anyway, here are a couple of pics of the remaining hunk.....Mel

looks nice. I have some slabs with similar pattern, but an overall low-contrast gray tone. here the black-tan contrast looks promising.

Looks as if you stick it in water, it might start growing again. Interesting pattern and looking forward to the slabs.

Hey Mel --- is this Yermo the same as Mule Canyon - or from another nearby locality? I know you can get palm from several areas, and I just want to make sure I know the best reference for it.
Thanks,
Lowell

Lowell, This came from right behind the Yermo city dumpsite off Minneola Rd. Someone told me that part of the area is now closed because of the so called early man site but I've found similar root from the area between the dump and Highway 15 too. Even found it in the road cut going up to the dump.....Mel

Those are some nice patterns with the old silver print sepia tones. Please keep us posted.
