Heres what I did today. Drove about 500 miles to Coquille OR and got another saw. This ones a 24 inch FranTom. We drove back up the coast highway and got to Beverly Beach just in time to find a few goodies before it got dark. The motor needs a new capacitor and I'll have to add auto shut off but other than that it's pretty much plug and play Now I can cut some of that big stuff. Lee

To start off with I might need someone to help me get that 400lb monster back out of the trailer. The logger kid that helped me load it was obviously moving a lot more weight than I was.
I'm not sure what a cut fee should be, in some cases a share in the slabs might br sufficient. Maybe you can PM me and we can figure out a time after we get back from quartzsite.

Sweet score Lee, sounds like the bulk of the project will be getting it unloaded. I am out of town through next Tuesday but could give a hand when I get back. Still think we would need another set of hands or more though, my back isn't up to lifting too much these days. Happy to help if I can though. When we put the legs on our 20" I actually used a come-a-long rigged to the garage trusses and winched it up high enough to slip the legs under it. Do you have a cherry picker by chance?

I got it out with the help of 2 wheel dollys and a floor jack. I'm going to make a frame of angle iron with caster wheels like the ones they make for table saws, I might want to move it again.
I think when the weather gets better I better think about pouring a slab out back and building a saw shed, I'm running out of space in the garage.

If you do that make sure to run a 100 amp service to it, branched off of your house circuit. Assuming, of course, you have the standard 200 amp service in your house (might not be the case depending on how old your current panel is). Glad to hear that you got it sorted though. When/if you want to build that shop/shed let me know. I have most of the general tools for doing so, wouldn't mind doing some rough framing again Cheers!

Beverly Beach,my fav. hounding place for fossils.............. Fossilman, our boys would love a fossil hounding trip. Could you give us some tips about where to look and what areas so we can set up a trip this spring? My oldest is particularly keen and the perfect age to get into it...plus he needs time away from the computer

I love the pictures of you towing the saw. It's just about as big as your car! Great find and great saw. Steve

I brought my 18 inch saw home on the same trailer with the same car, plus the trailer was loaded to the rails with buckets and boxes of rocks. I only had to go about 20 miles with that load though.
I replaced the capacitor on the motor and now it works great, I just need to watch it because no auto shut off yet. I'll get to that after Quartzsite
