Howdy folks, Picked up a trade box from a couple of buddies out in California. They sent some pretty interesting material so I thought I'd post a few pics. Here ya go and thanks for lookin.....Mel One of my buddies family has a ranch out by Creston, CA and the hilltops on the ranch contain a lot of big boulders of Franciscan Formation chert. Here are a couple of examples: Both of these guys work in the AG industry too and have access to ranches with a lot of jade and thulite. Jade doesn't look like much n the pics but it's really translucent green: These guys are old Cady Mtns buddies of mine too and here are some finds from the north Cadys: Moss agate: A moss and a fluorite mine Plume: More Fluorite Mine Plume: Look at the plume on this one: And an odd plume from the Cadys:

Yeah, that lens of plume shows equally well on the reverse side too. I'm thinking I'll trim out that section for a large free form cabs so as not to lose any of the pattern. That Fluorite Mine Plume is odd stuff. The plume is usually in little pockets in sort of a jasper matrix and very inconsistent in how it occurs. Only the most silicified parts are worth messing with and you have to cut the plume lenses out out because they are usually interspersed with a lot of zones which are very porous......Mel

That yellow moss with the red in it is awesome but the jade has me drooling. Any chance of trading you out of a piece of that jade big enough to make a ring out of. I would trade a small frb full of an assortment of the best slabs that I have. Jim

Jim: Porterville Jade, while pretty famous in California, has the one drawback of often having dark magnetite inclusions in the jade. Let me check all the slabs I have ( might have some even nicer small rough as I used to go on field trips to the old mines almost every year) and I'll see if I can find a piece for you with a clear area suitable for a nice cab. Should have some around somewhere as I know I cut up a big block for a trade with another of our members...Mel
