I still don't know what it is, but I really really like this one. I found the unknown rock in Lake Michigan in the South Haven, MI area. I never saw anything like it before. Pics are on my website here: spheremaker.com/whoa/If you know what it is, let me know!

How hard is the material ? Looks like possibly a septarian nodule. But I've never heard of them being found in that area.

it was hard as maybe quartz i'm thinking. Never saw orange crystal like that though. Not around here. We do have septarians in Michigan...I didn't know til I saw this blog post recently: mcrocks.com/ftr08/HarringtonApril2008.htmlI went there and found quite a few. I'd go to Van Buren State Park on Lake Michigan, just south of this park also. We'd find a ton of these type of septarians but with much bigger calcite formations. Me and the kids call them elephant feet. They have that look to them.

I've seen several septarians from South Dakota with the reddish orange color. That's why it was the first thing to come to mind.

Way cool.
Is it possibly man-made material - like slag, only different???

That is seriously incredible. The stone itself was a stunner, but it's even more striking as a sphere. Beautifully done! I haven't the first clue what it is, though I'd be curious to find out also.

Wow... Very very cool piece. Love the contrasts and the intensity of the reds. Thing looks like some kind of evil robot from the matrix movies!

I took a couple macro shots with a homemade lense I made from a disposable camera. Then I played around with some filters on my iphone. They look kinda creepy. I'd love to learn to do some real photography some day...any photo experts in here? See anything?
