That Gold Monk is 1st for me as is the garnet in shist. What is shist? That Karoit opal and the bot agate are also killers. Great way to brighten a rainy day on the NJ shore. Stu

Lol,...thanks, and sorry...I sort of left of the C in Schist It's a metamorphic rock, probably a sand, mud heat mix ...."The individual mineral grains in schist, drawn out into flaky scales by heat and pressure, can be seen by the naked eye." In this case the garnet crystals are protruding from the mica/schist in the rough, which is all sparkly from the mica, and actually is textured like scales. It is the devil to polish, but I've found that Zam on a buff as a final hit will get a bit more than a sheen on it. The gold goldstone/monkstone is new to me too. Jamie got me some at Quartzite, and this is my first cab with it. It's hard to take a pic of, and get the sparkle and color right, but it is very cool in person Stu..enjoy your rain, I've been in such a prolonged drought, I'd take rain every day for a year Hey, Dee. NIce to see you..it's been a while T

What is gold monk? Never heard of it. We have schist with garnets down near Philly but I've never gotten any.

Thanks, ya'll! Tony it is Gold Stone that is gold in color. The first time I ever saw it was in the 70's and it was called Monk Stone back then. I've seen green gold stone, blue gold stone, and red gold stone, but this is gold gold stone It is pretty cool, but very, very gold, lol...except this one piece, that had darker concentric, oval rings in it. The rest of the chunk looks solid gold, with gold flecks in it, like a billion gold sparkles in a field of gold. I mean to say, this stuff is almost over gold, lol. T

Nice cabs, but you're jpegging your pictures to death. Try a higher quality setting when saving or shooting the photos.

That Gold Monk is stunning Tony! At the Gay Dolphin in Myrtle, I saw tumbled orange rocks with the sparkles all over like that. They weren't labeled, but I wonder if that could have been what it was? If so, they are way cool in person...

Tony, Can you tell me more about the monk stone? I have a ring that looks similar to this stone and I have not been able to source it. I think that this may be the same material. here is a photo of the ring
