Simple enough, I am putting together a rockhounding bag, and i would like some inspiration. So pictures of your hounding bag, bucket, whatever you use, and include. I am thinking an ALICE pack should do me, but i wanted to see what everyone else does for theirs.

I buy large backpacks at yard sales, after hauling rock around for a while they get torn up so I buy cheap ones and use them until they are too broken or worn out. The metal frame ones last the longest.

Depends on how far you're hiking in, and how much you plan to carry out. I have the medium size Alice pack, but I'm getting too old for hauling 50+ lbs of rock out for more than a mile or so. On most trips I use a web belt with 2 M60 ammo pouches, a canteen, a rock pic holster and since I hound in rattler country, a .38 loaded with snake shot. I have the military suspenders for the web belt to take the load off my hips. I have a small pouch on each shoulder strap. One holds a GPS, and the other a pack of cigarettes and a signal mirror. I do a lot of higrading in the field, and only carry out the best material.

I just carry a backpack from a garage sale or thrift store, like Tony said, and then my rock pick. I have a Eastwing. I then carry a medium bottle of water and a rag. An old toothbrush is handy to brush dirt off. Then of course I carry some bandaids, wet wipes and antibiotic cream but I leave it in the car. The rag will work til I get there. Most of our rock is float so no shovel is needed and the rock pick works for shallow rocks that are stuck. If I think of more, I will post. Sheri

Depends on where I'm hounding. If I'm gonna need to dig, I carry a fold up army shovel. I carry a big spray bottle of water if I'm not hounding near water where I can wash the stone off to see it. I've got my Estwing rock hammer and a big long screw driver. I carry several small baggies and sometimes an old pill bottle for little stuff. I tuck a few extra canvas drawstring bags so if the backpack is full, I can stuff the bag. Carry a phone and sometimes a GPS. Sometimes instead of a backpack I use a hunting fanny pack. I also have a cargo vest with tons of pockets. Depending on how much bending I need to do under downed trees and vines, I'll use those so I can duck.

I have a Kelty Pack, a large rucksack style with bendable back supports like a Lowes expedition pack. We put the rock into feed sacks before putting them in the pack. For shorter walks I have an old canvas boy scout pack.

I use a large ALICE pack, my wife has a medium. To protect the pack itself we load rock in canvas shopping bags. The various pockets hold survival gear, spare clips, water, food, etc, and my paleo slides in between the frame, and pack as does my wifes WWII entrenching pick. Woody

I have a medium Alice pack with frame, the belt needed improvement, so i will get a molle kidney pad to replace that. I have some basic stuff in the bag now, my pick, bricklayers hammer, chisel set, bottle of water, rags. I am thinking about adding a kneeling pad, emergency blanket, trowel, vinyl poncho. I also got a few gas mask bags made out of heavy canvas, which i will load rock into before going into the alice pack. what else am i missing?

I had wanted an Alice pack but Grace Slick sent me to the wrong address when she told me to go ask her for one. I finally did find her after walking about a half a mile down the railroad track. When I got there some hippy dude by the name of Arlo started telling me a story about how he was busted for littering. Seriously, I use a canvas type bag that will carry about 15 - 20 pounds of rough plus a hammer and a few other supplies. Condor

Estwing rock hammer in a holster on my belt, cheap backpack, water, phone (w/gps and a camera). I drive off-road to begin with so I try to stay within eyesight of my truck and if things get too heavy I come back and offload then go back where I was.

I carry one or two five gallon buckets (or an ice cream pail for small stuff), my Estwing rock hammer in a holster, a large squirt bottle, and a bottle of water. I can carry about 60 lbs. of rock in each bucket.
I also carry snacks, a pocket knife, and a leatherman in my fishing vest (lots of pockets for prize pieces).
I used to wear a leather nail apron, but I didn't like my rock hammer in it, so I switched to the holster.
If I'm going to be out for a while I'll carry lunch and more water in a light weight day pack.
