I went down to Zapata to spend half a day hounding on a ranch and the other half on the roads to Bob's Knob. I got my first half day done but got rained out on the Bob's Knob half. I picked this day because the expected high was 93F with some rain expected. Right on both predictions. How often does that happen? Anyway. I picked up a few rocks at the ranch. Some jaspers: Agates: I thought this was wood but a closer looks makes me think it's agate: I think this is wood. Very dense, translucent. Some type of fossil, maybe coral? Any ideas?: Ya'll have a good weekend.

Didn't see any snakes. Just lizards, jackrabbits and a tortoise. The place looks greener than it did in March so they've had a little rain. Have you ever hounded around Mines Road outside of Laredo?

Great finds. That coral at the end is terrific, though everything above is pretty nice, too. Might have to plan a fall Zapata trip, myself.

Mel kept showing all that wood from Three Rivers and it made me spend a bunch of money and go down there. Now I guess more money and a trip to Zapata is in my future.
Great stuff! That green poppy is awesome!

Bessie Simpson doesn't mention any special precautions to be taken on Mines Road in her 1967 "Gem Trials of Texas". I guess times have changed some. Thanks for the advice riverbendlapidary, I don't want to be the guy that takes a rock hammer to a gun fight.

Carlos, you scored big-time. I'll echo the other comments ... "Jealous!" ... Seriously, way to go. Looking forward to seeing them tumbled (or slabbed or whatever). Your stuff comes out great. Paul
