A wildfire broke out yesterday about 12:30 and is now about 2500 acres big. They have mandatory evacuation for the area across the highway from me and down the mtn to and including Manitou Springs and parts of Colorado Springs. I am under a volunteer evacuation here as the fire is less than 4 miles from me. The smoke plume is gigantic and is blowing north away from me ! Weird I can see red smoke and black and Gray smoke from my front deck. The main Incident Command post is at the end of my road 1500 ft away from me.
Will post some smoke pics if I can .
Dicky
EVACUATION IS NOW MANDITORY AS THE FIRE IS CLOSE TO CROSSING THE 4 LANE DEVIDED HIGHWAY IN MANITOU WHICH WOULD GIVE THE FIRE A GREAT CANYON TO CLIME UP HERE. SMOKE SMELL IS GETTING STRONGER !! PART OF COLO SPRINGS AND ALL OF MANITOU ARE EVACUATED, THE MARSHAL HAS NOT COME BY TELLING US TO LEAVE YET JUST THE REVERSE 911 CALL. GOING TO A FRIENDS HOUSE IN wOODLAND PARK WHEN WE LEAVE THANKS FOR ALL YOUR CONCERNS AND THOUGHTS.

Pack a bag and important stuff and be ready. Those fires have a mind of their own and most stuff can be replaced but you can't be.
Like Don said. Be safe and take care. Jim

Play it safe. If it gets too close, leave the rocks behind. They can be replaced. Don't forget your important documents. Sending good thoughts your way, Dicky. Jo

Wow be safe out there! Wonder if all these fires are from natural causes. I understand the Al Quaeda terrorists have put out the call to set America on fire this year and have been told to concentrate on fire bombing areas with high home density in the forest lands. Hopefully, this is not what's happening but sometimes I wonder....Mel

Just got off the phone with a trucker buddy who's driving south to north through Colorado. He says the smoke is so thick at times that he can barely see. He heard from his escort that one of the fires was set on purpose. He's just north of Denver right now and headed for Wyo.

Gosh darn it Dicky. This stresses me out sooooo much! PLEASE give us an update!!!! I am so worried about you and Frank. Are you ok?
Prayed this morning for you, praying again now...... Charles Kuchar sent me a beautiful amethyst rosary, I'm not sure how to use it, but Charles said that it is blessed and there are angels that stay with it to help me. If I do this right then I'm sending them your way!!!
BE SAFE!!!!!

Sun was already too low on the horizon to get the colors, but the smoke from the fire above Billings, Mt. has almost reached Aberdeen, S.D. As dry as things are over here, it's only a matter of time until we get our first prairie fire. And the fireworks stands opened today. Already sounds like a war zone outside. Damned idiots !!

Thats my home town area, north of Billings...Sounds like the Bull Mountains got hit pretty hard.....My old stomping grounds. We are headed there in July,so will see the destruction! They just got squared away from that major flood a year ago too!

Couple of good rains to wash them off, and you should be tripping over those Montana moss agates.
