This week, I got not 1 but TWO neat surprises!!! A wonderful SFRB from Juzwuz, with some small but very very nice slabs, some of which I've never seen before!! I don't think I've ever talked to Juzwuz here, so wow... that was a HUGE surprise!!! Thanks again Juz!!! I will pay it forward (and backwards:P) soon as I get the Traveling box shipped out too:). Here's what he sent me: Group shots never really show how neat individual slabs are, so here are some closeups of the worst looking in the group shot (they are BEAUTIFUL!). Obsidian... this color is WILD!!!! I got some beautiful obsidians from Hand2Mouth, and did not get this color (electric blue?!). LOVE it!: Not sure what this is... but the blue bits are shocking blue (does anyone know??): And finally, a really perfect little slice of red agate!!: The group shot showed the other beautiful slabs much better, so I didn't do individual shots of those. But I also got a gorgeous piece of small labdorite with a lot of blue- it's really vivid!!, a piece of what looks like green variscite, a piece of Mookaite, a small but very well defined rutilated quartz crystal, and a green with light green bits... not sure what this is - but I didn't have one:), and a peach colored slab that looks like quartz??, but I don't think it is from the color, and a big wedge of reddish jasper that looks a bit like a slice of pizza:). I really love every single slab Juzwuz, and when I got it, I was just floored at your generosity and really nifty variety!!! I was smiling all day long:)!

The peach one looks like sunstone. Is it sparkley? That's how a bunch is being labeled on ebay by a seller called movielegends. Glorious stuff I haven't tried dto work it yet. Nice presents!!!

Thanks Susan! I don't think it's sunstone... does sunstone come brecciated like that??? I got a few small sunstones from Cal, and they were solid peachy translucent...

I've hounded Albite Sunstone, the slab does look like possible Sunstone. Sunstone is feldspar and can be interspersed with Quartz.
This was a very nice thing for someone to do. RTHers are the best! Jo

Helen, Glad you liked them! I was hoping some of those slabs would be new to you. It's always fun to see new stuff. Of course I forgot to label them. As best as I know (I'm still new to rocks) the peach one is India Sunstone, the greenish one is a grossular garnet, the red one is a slice of Brazilian agate, the black and white one is a BC flowerstone. I think the pizza slize was identified as a amethyst sage. I never did find out what the blue speckled one is. Justin

Yeah, that's it, Indian sunstone in feldspar. Here's the blurb from the ebay listing:
"About The Material: Sunstone Slab from India, measures approx. blah blah blah. Sunstone is a gemstone variety of oligoclase feldspar with minute platelike brilliant reddish-orange inclusions of iron oxide (hematite or goethite) oriented parallel to one another. These bright coppery reflections found in sunstone exhibit a special optical effect known as aventurescence. Remember to make your sunstone cabochon a low dome to take full advantage of this beautiful display of spangled inclusions. Feldspar is a fragile crystal and it has a pronounced cleavage parallel with the crystal faces with an approximate hardness of 6."
Different from the transparent gem sunstones they dig up in Oregon. However, I can't get any google hits that look like this stuff when I google "Indian sunstone", even with "slab" in there. So it might be misidentified on ebay. I always assumed it was little teeny un-precious sunstones in the quartz or feldspar matrix, but who knows.

I'm back:). Thanks for the ID confirmation Juzwuz!!! I don't even think I would have figured most of them out, because they are not slabs you see often! So not only was it nice of you to ship them, but to ship really unusual stuff!!!!
Jo, you're right, RTH's are a special group of people:).
Susan, thanks for the extra info about it, and the info about the low dome during cabbing is very helpful! I typically do not dome, I tend to do a flat face with a beveled edge to show off the pattern in the stone, so it's good to know that doming is the best way to show it off!
I had no idea sunstone came like that. And in person, the little specks really do glow very brightly. When I first opened the box, I thought... whoa! What IS that!!! I literally had never seen anything even like that before!!
Juz, just out of curiosity, I know you make spheres, but do you collect slabs or specimens too, or only spheres:)?

Just want to clear up that Sunstone is feldspar. Try googling "albite sunstone". Jo

Thanks Jo. Haha, I googled it, and promptly got taken to a bunch of sites using very long words! :-) Where did you hound it?

I pretty much like whatever my daughters' like. They were into geodes and thundereggs for a while because of the surprise factor when you first open them up with the saw. My youngest wanted to know if I could make her some marbles so I built the sphere machine. We are currently getting into cabbing (summer project). One of these days, I'll try to refurbish the faceting machine I picked up at a craigslist sale. My youngest had her eye on some large faceted glass gems at a rock show and it would be cool to be able to make them. Justin
