Howdy folks, ' Emptied out the UV-10, another mixed batch, mostly wood from our Three Rivers, Texas hunt a few months ago. Also threw in some stuff I wanted to finish for Lowell's kids and the ranch kids. Had some visitors again a couple of days ago who dented my supply a bit so I was happy to restock. Anyway, here are a few pics of some of the types in the load....Mel Palm root from near the city dump at Yermo, CA. Pretty pitty and vuggy stuff but interesting patterns. Some of John's ( Bueltonrocks) mozarkite. Absolutely love tumbling this stuff! Some of Jim's ( Wampidy) Wampalicious little Wyoming agates, another real fun tumble. Mixture of the Three Rivers wood showing the variety of color and patterns. And finally, a couple of those little Three Rivers jasper nodules. I never seem to remember to pick these up but heck, they are real nice, already rounded by water action, and very fracture free. They are literally all over some of the roads down that way. I do have some more somewhere but can't remember where the heck I put the dang things.

Looks like I could shave in that mirror finish Mel. I was afraid those little agates would have too many pits in them but you worked them up damn nice. Jim

Awesome batch! I'm feeling a little self conscious, the eyes in the first group are staring at me. Jo

Jim, Those little agates had a few fractures but the pits were mostly fairly shallow. Did take a long run in coarse grind to remove them though, those agates are hard little boogers...Mel

6/2? Have I gone back in time? Like Groundhog's Month? Cause I truly do NOT want to relive the last three weeks of teaching this year!!!!
I'll keep this short - love the Palm!!!
Also - what's the info on the Wampilicious agates - are they nodules or pieces of larger chunks of agate? Also - wondering where from WY they might be?
Yeah - always thinking about the Index...I know....
Great job as always!

Lowell. Those little agates come from a strip 5 miles wide to the west and 10 miles south of Greybull. I call them eye poppers because no matter how small they are it is impossible to not see them. All of the rock in that area is a gravel pit type of mix with many more rocks that I do not know what they are or where they came from than rocks that I do know what they are. Every stone that I have shown on here that comes from Wyoming came from that area except for the pink agate. It almost has to be river wash or glacial push because everything there is worn down to nearly round in shape and it is mixed up with a lot of dirt.
I never thought about them as far as the index goes. The photo that Mel posted is the only photo because I did not tumble any of them. I sent all I had (about a third of a bucket) to Mel so I don't even have any rough.lol I did send some a little larger that I had sorted out to John (herchnx) and I do not know if he has tumbled any yet. They were 1 1/2" to 3" size. Jim

*L* Yeah yeah, I know Lowell. I should know what month it is because I have to lead the annual freedom horseback ride tomorrow morning and that's always the third of "July" *L*. Lets see what are my many excuses: I'm friggin old. I was friggin warn out from clearing the trails for the ride all week. It's so hot my brain is melting. I can't type worth spit. And I'm retired so never know what day or month it is most the time anyway. Take your pick *L*
This particular batch of Yermo palm root is not as nice in person as a lot of the roots are hollow and some parts were softer than others. Would have thrown it out but after all the trouble I went to cracking it up and coarse grinding it, I figured I'd keep it despite it's flaws. Unusual because in the past, most all the Yermo I've collected and cut was much more solid. That area used to be one of my favorites for an easy hunt but the palm root got kind of scarce over the years. There is good stuff there as I took a buddy from work not all that long ago and he smashed up beyond redemption the finest piece of palm root I've ever seen. Walks up to me and says, " Mel is this what you're looking for?". My reply was, "Yep it sure was until you smashed it to shards!" Never trust a newbie with a hammer....Mel

Wow, Mel, the Yermo materials are great! My boys and I have been out there several times and only come away with a couple of those pieces. Looks like we're going to have to look a bit more carefully and AWAY from the main dirt road. That location has turned into one of our favorites. Thanks for posting all the photos! Those pieces came out great. Paul
