This is a cab from the piece of Disdero that Warren sent me, Unfortunately when I cut the stone into slabs it exposed some hidden fractures. I chose to cut this cab with a higher dome as I noticed that the surrounding stone would cause an undercutting issues and to cut around that surrounding material would result in to much loss of material. Working with a higher dome left me enough wiggle room to compensate and correct for undercutting. At least that was my thought as I never worked with a stone with this variety of hard and soft material before. I hope it came out OK I think it came out OK. Though I must say it was a challenge. The slab The preform cab blanc The Finished Cab The green and golden areas of material were very soft but I think I was able to keep them even with the rest of the material by using a very light touch. I still have to smooth out the underside edge after I clean it up. I should have a few more cabs coming out of this piece. Thanks Warren (Disderodude) Thanks for looking Stu

I'm glad you decided to try and keep the whole pattern; it turned out well and as usual those red spots and formations in the Disdero just make it that much more interesting. I hope you get some clear material from the rest though. I do the same thing on new material; I'll take the worst cut and try to make the best out of it to see what can be done.

It actually turned out quite nice Stu. I recognize it was more challenging than I originally thought it would be and you managed to utilize the stone better than most would have. Great job and thanks for posting Stu!

Very nice! Good choice with the high dome, it really keeps a lot of the detail of the complex stone you got. Great execution on a tricky stone

Unfortunately, I can't see the pics. The file size is too large for my dialup connection. Maybe in he future you could use one of those free photo editors to reduce the file size for us? Thx Phil

Thanks for all of the kind words. I really wanted this one to come out really nice for Warren who was so generous to offer it to me. The combinations of areas of water clear agate with the beautiful color range of blues and reds along with the other softer material gives the cab a degree of depth that unfortunately isn't fully conveyed in the pictures. Perhaps when I get it into the light box those aspects of the stone will become more apparent. Looking forward to seeing how the next cab turns out. Stu
