Spent the whole day cabbing! YAY! Still going thru cabs I bought years ago and reworking some. But, I did do a few new ones. Here's one I redid. I'm never touching larimar again if I can help it. And here's some new ones Cool mushroom jasper, I left the corner bevels in. This didn't photograph as nice as it is. It is a beautifull blue green larsonite. Looks like imperial jasper. Unknown jasper. Petrified Indonesian bird's eye palmwood. I mentioned this in a thread because of the thinness of it. I finally got brave enough to do it. It started out 3.81mm and is now 3.65mm, yes, it is domed with a 2.08mm bezel and no flat spot! Go me, YAY! ;D ;D ;D I did open a small pit that I need to fill, though. This is gorgeous material. This is a beautiful piece of imperial jasper given to me by Susan24224. It was a real challenge to cut. This was thin (4.22mm), too, but I did it. I think I'm getting the hang of cutting thin cabs. Inside the light spot on the top right are two little dots of pyrite. It looks like the light area is the shine and flare from the metal. Really cool! I'm really proud of myself for today's efforts. Thanks for looking

Ya know what Tela? I LIKE your rocks! #1) Why aren't you going to work with Larimar anymore? I've always wanted to try that stuff but I have a limit on how much I'll pay for a rock to screw it up, so I haven't gotten any. How was it to work and why isn't it worth the investment? #2) I really like 3 and 5 the best because I really like teal and those look to be incredible stones to me! #3) I like the last imperial. You are getting the hang of it. Did you back that critter AND it does look like the flare from the pyrite! :-)

Thanks Cathy! I'll tell ya- I got a good deal on a big ass cab on ebay, but it was real thick with no bezel. It pretty much could only be netted. So, I thought I'd just cut some off the back. Nope, it chipped insanely bad. Pieces just started flying everywhere. I tried different things and different wheels and decided to just leave it thick and put a bezel/girdle on it. That went ok enough. While grinding a girdle, a lot the chipped areas smoothed out but I ended up filling a lot of them. It's ok because it is on the back bottom and it looks good. Messing with this stone has taught me that I don't want to do a whole cab from rough. I think it would be too easy to dump a chunk of change into really crappy rough. Maybe I just don't know what I am doing.

The larimar and the birdseye palmwood are way cool!!! Especially the palmwood, what a totally amazing cab. The whole batch is amazing but those two really catch the eye.

That palmwood is downright incredible. All are beautiful, but the palmwood is amazing.
On the imperial jasper, I *think* that royal imperial jasper is different stuff from imperial jasper. Royal imperial jasper comes in nodules, you have a straight cut across one nodule (next one I'll try to get wider). I read on one website that the royal imperial is just a different form of imperial, but another website said they are different rocks.
Anyone know for sure?

I agree royal imperial is slightly different because it forms in small nodules. still same colors and same fine grain.
larimar nicer than many larimar. nice pattern.

Tela, all those are GORGEOUS! You have gotten so good at cabbing!! The 'unknown jasper' looks like Wampidy's pink Wyoming rocks... what he calls 'Jim Brown's Pink Jasper'. I don't know of anyone else who has any that look like that, especially not in the salmon pink. Here's some pieces of mine of it... and none of these look quite like the one I have in the tumbler now. That one's the one most like your cab, and they look like they were cut from the same rock. When it comes out, I'll post a pix of it if I remember:). The ones below are fairly close:

Thanks everyone! Susan, yes, I didn't check my notes and this is ROYAL imperial jasper. I can never remember which is which. I do love this stuff though, it's really sweet, right up there with Bruno. Thank you Helen, yes, I have some of Jim's Pink jasper. This is more orange and red, I think it came from Maryann of Stones that Rock, but I'm not sure. I had been marking everything so I wouldn't get it mixed up, but some of the marks came off. So, it could be from Jim.

Fine day, fine grind , Tela Its really is a good time when your productive & shining as you obviously were
Larsonite shape is slap'n & hap'n & the imperial jasper turned horizontal could be the eye of the tiger or some rock'n critter Ed
