Got in some more cabbing. I think I was on a roll there for a few days, but today I couldn't do any. After tntmom posted some of this stuff, I had to have it! Randy pointed some out to me and I got a slab. The pattern that I started with ground out. I have more to try out for a better one. This is a smallish cab of lapis, though I guess it should be more like denim lapis. It turned my Genie tray of water the most beautiful blue! (and some of me) A rhodochrosite from Argentina that I reworked. It had been unpolished and yucky. I learned how soft this stuff is! This stone came from Maryann of Stones that Rock. It is stupendous in person. It is definitely an agate. I'm thinking Burro Creek. The small slabbette had a rind of pure tranparent purple, but not enough to save. The color graduation in from darker at the edges and lighter in the center is beautiful and subtle. I love it! This was a small slabbette from Maryann, too. It was marked sodalite because the purple was so dark. In order to save the best of the purple, I had to include some of the white quartz. I think this is just about the best purple in a cab that I have seen and the interior pattern looks boytroidal though I know it isn't. It seems to have a color change from dark blue to dark purple according to the light. I've seen that in faceted stones before (from Uruguay, I think). That's all for awhile. I need to do some wrapping. Thanks for looking!

You have some beautiful cabs here! I agree the purple agate is purple burro creek. I love that stuff! The top one looks like Unikite. Not sure what it is. Was it soft or hard? Your rhodocrosite is top shelf! Your last one looks more like lepidolite than sodalite to me. It is most often lighter than that but can be very dark as well and I have heard they also have blue but it is hard to find. No Matter, this is a beautiful batch! Fran

I'm not sure that the purple is Burro Creek either, I think it's too dark. It sure is beautiful, did it grind hard like an agate? Those are all beautiful!!

Thanks everyone I reread what I wrote and see that I omitted that the last purple one was amethyst. A really pretty one. It cut exactly like quartz. The one I was thinking was burro creek was the paler purple one. And YES! I thought the obsidian looked like unakite, too. That was exactly what I thought, but it is definitely obsidian. I'm hoping the next one looks better.

The first one is called Starry Night Obsidian. It comes from Mexico, Chihuahua I think. The inclusions are feldspar. I've tried tumbling it. Don't.

;D nice ones Tela, Man I really like the burro crk looking one, and really love that shape!! very cool ...........Hub p.s. we have a feldspar here that really looks a lot like that obsidian cab, kind of an orange-pink stuff with the cream white and dark specks. It's exactly the same only different.lol
