This is my first cab from the stromatolite we hounded in Wyoming earlier this summer. I am very happy with this stuff.

It has a "wood" feel to it, almost like some really gnarly root or something.

I don't normally like brown rocks either, except in stromatolites and Biggs Jasper, and fire agate.
Also agree that free-forms are the way to go.

That's great! I've got some big chunks of stromatolite I bought last year, but haven't jumped on yet. Somehow the fact that it is many millions of years old, and my distant relatives, has made me shy with it. But now I think I'll jump It's just that the outside texture makes them such nice display pieces, lol. T

That's a beauty John. Was there an abundance of that color where you found that piece?
There is an abundance of stromatolite up here but most is like sandstone or a very bland tan. There are some with red but they are very rare. The last one I found I gave to a new museum here. Jim

Jim, it all seems to look like this. Some seems a bit lighter, but i need to slab it to see how it works. Nice and solid though.

That's some nice material! I love the swirly richness of it. Great job on the cab, too.
