3x4 x .25+ " scanned wet. This is the good side. The not so good side. The slab has some value. I expect the results of cabbing it would reduce the value substantially and given my background with BO, a frustrating experience. What would you do with the slab?

I don't "see" a cab that is worth more than the slab

Are you saying that's BO? Looks like a cool oddball Thunder egg slice to me. Neat colors there.

I don't know what it is. It sure looks like opal. There is no ironstone.

There's several types of thunder eggs with opal inside. Hopefully one of the experts on the board can ID it for you.

Definitely an opal egg, wish I had an idea where it's from. I would very carefully wet sand and polish the slab myself.

I can't speak for all the varieties of T.Eggs out there but from what I've seen of the 50 some odd sliced eggs I have ...BO, (I assume you mean basic opal) is usually white/cream/bone white/light tan and forms in layers that show the orientation of the rock as the material settled.... Almost all the BO in my eggs is white-cream color.... I have eggs with multi-colored stripes and even banding, but nothing that looks like that. I would say that, that is not BO...in my opinion... it does not show the characteristics that I usually see in BO. Kinda looks like you have some kind of growth there... moss, roots.. something like that.... The guy from oregonthundereggs.com would probably know a lot more than I do. (I forgot his name, really nice guy!)

At first glance I thought it looked like a slice of an agate thunder egg from the Deming, New Mexico that is until I read it has opal in it. I haven't seen Opal thunder eggs from Deming, but maybe there is? Either way I think it would make a nice polished slab specimen.

I thought about cutting the slab down to 2" and polishing it using wheels, but it has a vug that goes through the slab and wouldn't look good. I cut the slab along the vug and created two preforms one broke and here are the results.

I'd cab it. If you decide not to, then you'll have another slice of rock laying around. lol
