Here's a picture of the table thats right by our slab saw. I really like cutting but we dont really have a good way to sell any so they are adding up pretty fast. Oh well they are still fun to look through. Chuck

That's a lot neater and more organized than me... I've got boxes labeled by rock stashed all over my area and a pile of "I-don'tknow-ite sitting on a shelf in 1 big pile.... Can't find anything when I need it so I just slab some more and when I finish that I usually find it because I start a new box and put it right next to the old box!! :/

Put some flat rate boxes together of a mix of slabs, take some pictures and sell them here in the buy sell area. Might free up some space for ya

When I get a good enough variety I will probably offer up some flat rates. Cutting is addicting but I find it very time consuming. I figure at least 20-30 minutes for each cut plus setup for the next cut so I am only getting 4-5 slabs each day after work.
Clyde - slab party is a GREAT idea, too bad about the logistics.

I'm cutting large jasper, 4x5 - 4x6 and each cut is usually only about 10 minutes including the initial setup, after that it's; retract, 5 turns out, slide up to blade, close the lid, turn it on and find something to do until it finishes.

If you epoxy some of those big slabs people will buy them to put on their stove to lay stirring spoons on. They look a lot better than a piece of plastic, they can go in the dish washer and not flip all over the place. Just a thought. Not real sure where you can sell them though but my son has seen them in some small kitchen appliance stores and resale shops. I have also heard that some of the head shops sell them for the wealthy coke users to chop up their coke on but some people would probably have issues with that. Jim

Mario- the saw has an auto feed that runs at a rate of 5 minutes per inch. Might be slow but blade wear seems great and I have not had any issues. Like anything else it would be great to have it faster though.

I usually read a book or putter around the garage while I'm waiting for the slab to finish. I'm with Mario on your organization. Looks great. Mine are all in boxes ... which just get stacked up and buried. Looks like you have enough to sell on the forum, though. SFRB ...

Nice slab table, Chuck! Looks enticing with the jewelry pieces displayed on it, too!! :cheesy: I have also heard that some of the head shops sell them for the wealthy coke users to chop up their coke on but some people would probably have issues with that. Jim ROFL! Do like your idea of using slabs for utensil holders while cooking, Jim.

Your picture looks about like mine except about 1/4 as large. We just put them in plastic baggies and in a box until such time as we get to them which so far has been never. ;D It's Clyde's fault; he got us started on this. I'd sure like to find a way to display them in the house.

If you want to get more cuts get more saws I have 5 but I need to rewire the garage to run more than 2 or 3 at a time without tripping circuit breakers

Chuck, I love your kids' sign/jewelry racks. Are those magnets displayed on the vertical board? Do you just glue those flexible, flat sheets of magnets on the back? I was thinking of making a magnetic rock insert for those magnetic necklaces that girls wear. I'm pretty sure I'd have to counter sink the magnet in the rock though.

If you find your cutting time slowing down, clean everything up. I took some clean oil and a paint brush and cleaned up everything, the sliders, the sled, the trays, everything and the saw started cutting about 2x as fast as before. Slabs that were taking 30 to 40 minutes (4 inches thick) are now taking under 20 minutes. Needless to say, we now brush and flush off all the crud every day before start-up while we can get clean oil off the top of the reservoir. Phil

What a nice clean organized shop and slab table! I am like many others that seem to misplace slabs and have boxes everywhere. I have those plastic shoe boxes stacked up in columns of 5 to 10 each and use painters tape to label where the contents were purchased or collected from but my big issue is writing the names on individual slabs. I have stuff that I used to know the name of but now.... not a clue on the ID, lol!

Thanks for all the great comments. Its really only so organized because of our short time doing this stuff and we like to have a little of everything on display so people can check it all out easily. I can see what you guys mean though because we cant possibly cab all the rock we are cutting so I am sure there will be shoe boxes full of rocks stacked in every corner soon enough Chuck
