Hi Everyone, I have a question; I bought a couple chunks of Lapis Lazuli at the NOVA meneral show held at George Mason last weekend. Not much in the way of rough or slabs but at least I felt these were an ok deal. Now, I want to start slicing these but I can't remember if I can slice them with oil or not. The last chunk I got was very small so I could slice it with a tile saw and that was with water. I will post the pictures of the rocks here and then when I get some slices, I will add. Any advise is appreciated! Dry: Wet: Fran

I have slabbed Lapis with mineral oil and did not have any problems getting them clean.

Thanks! I just couldn't remember if this would be a problem child. I will get some sliced up this week.

You can use oil or water, I've done both. Those are nice!!

I think I saw someone on the board mention that you could soak porous rock in water before slabbing it in an oil cooled saw. The water in the pores should help keep the oil from seeping in and staining them.

I just sliced up a nice chunk using mineral oil and the cuts look good.
