The vice and blade are removed as I'm cleaning and refurbing it. They are Covington add on's anyway. But can anyone ID the manufacturer of this unit before someone replaced the insides with Covington parts? The odd color might help give it away. It's got a metallic sheen. Beacon Star maybe? Thanks! Phil that color kind of looks like that of my old Hilquist saw I have. Mine is a drop saw but the color looks close to this one.

This was the Hilquist color. Beacon Star was more blue than these. Attachments:

Probably is an older Covington design.
If the motor is still there does it spin backwards? (CCW at shaft) There were some old Covington mud saws that had a lid like that and the blade spun up through the rock since the blade was a disc passing through grit slurry to make the cut.

Thanks. Covington isn't sure if it's an old one of theirs or not. Definitely early 60's or even earlier. The motor does run ccw, but all covingtons do. They just don't remember back that far if they were using that color or not. Phil

My first guess is Covington. Someone taking the guts out of a Covington to put it in another saw is doubtful and delusional at best. Covington built hoods with open sides just like the one in the pics and i've seen old covingtons with different shades of green than they use now. The only other option if you are seeing clues like bad welds, poorly drilled holes, extra holes etc which I can't see in the pic could be that it was a Covington kit and someone built the tank and hood. I kinda doubt that's the case id say most likely original without seeing it up close. Most people wouldn't had built the hood using a sheetmetal roller but you never know I seen an engineer completely copy an ls14 drop saw, which is illegal btw, to the point it was identical.

Thanks everyone. Everything points to an old old Covington unit or one of their kits, but as I said, even Covington isn't sure. I offered to trade it for their museum in return for a new one (grin). The box was either professionally made or by a darn good mechanic. So I don't think it was a home built. The colors are what throws off the folks at Covington. Oh - Robsrockshop.... I caled Lortone about getting a parts list and replacement parts for the senior center's 14" drop saw when I was rebuilding it, and they said they no longer have any parts, plans, or papers, and if I wanted to make my own, to have at it. They have no interest in that particular design anymore. Wish I could find someone with an old set of plans, I'd build one for myself, it's a good unit! I may need to sit down with pencil, tape measure and paper and detail out the one at the center. I built a tall mist cover for it, doesn't look too pretty (Wood and corrugated plastic) with lexan doors on the front which turned out to work very well, just doesn't look very pretty. If I ever build another one, it'll be out of PVC or Aluminum. Thanks again! Phil

That's interesting I didn't know they stopped making the drop saw. Some of those guys i've talked to at Covington are old and don't even know what day it is sometimes let alone the paint they used to use lmao. Sorry about the delusional comment, i've been watching BigBangTheory way too much lately it's a riot.

Just fyi I had a 10" covington trim saw that was old but never used and it was the exact same color, not the darker green that they use now.
