:help:
Hi all!
Does anyone have any experience, knowledge or even a good guess as to lining up a thunderegg for slicing?
Do I slice through the agate ridge around it or across it?
Thanks to all in advance for your help!

Most of the ones I have, have been sliced along the ridge by the person I got them from.
The few I have done have been sliced the same way too and I think I am doing OK that way too!

You almost always want to cut from top to bottom. Here is a link from the Geode Kid that shows how to orient: www.zianet.com/geodekid/howtocut.htmThere is a picture of a Priday egg with the ridges. Richardson's Ranch used to hand out a similar drawing to diggers. Other types, you just figure what is the bottom (which tends to be a bit wider and heavier).

I look for the agate ridge and line it up with the saw blade to get a cut surface with the most agate exposed.

Cut it in half and go from there.
