Howdy folks,
Just three pics in this set cause my battery died. I'll continue later with the rest of this final set....Mel
One day when I was out for a walk, I discovered a new road under construction to explore. About half way along the road and I started finding Primrose Jasper nodules. Then, further along, I discovered the Cosmos Jasper vein. Looked over the fence and there was more so I took the rancher a bottle of spirits, had a little chat and ended up digging up all the material in his pasture which proved lucky as the ranch sold and I lost access.
Then a bit further up the road I found another vein crossing the road. Imagine a road literally paved with poppy jasper. Very cool! Looked over the fence, and huge boulders everywhere. Had to get permission from two ranchers at this location and the first guy took the best boulders for himself *sniff*. Eventually this was a great score though and if I hadn't caught a horrible case of Poison Oak digging the vein from a roadside bank, it would have been even neater.
First pic is another poppy type from the tailings of the place the Holy grail Poppy came from. We left a lot of poppy jasper here as the tailings were deep and we only went down a couple of feet in the piles.
This is the material that was across the road and where I caught the poison oak. Vein went from about a foot wide to only a half inch at the end and then pinched out. Had several types of poppies depending on where in the vein you cut your slabs. Lots still left in the road as I don't like to leave holes in a road but now it's graveled over and a doctor built a house right smack on top of the vein. ( Yes, I raided the construction site and yes I found more neat jasper *L*) I would have killed to take a backhoe to that hillside as I'm sure, based on float I found and stuff exposed during home construction, that there were several other veins in the same area of the hill. All this is fairly solid stuff and what I call small orb poppy jasper as most the orbs run about 1/8" or so.
