I was on Ebay doing some cyber rock hounding and I came across this piece of OB. Is this a real vasriety of OB or do you think it is treated? One person out their seems to really wamt it. I did see another very vibrant and intense piece of rainbow OB go off for 446.00 at West Coast Gems auction. Do you all think this is some really rare piece of OB? Thanks Stu Dahh I forgot to link the listing Here it is: www.ebay.com/itm/230907289623?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1431.l2649

I don't think you could do much to treat obsidian, in my experience heat just makes it into broken glass.

Looks real enough. As the listing states, the fire does look very close to the top, so it might be tricky to polish that particular piece without cutting through it. Fire obsidian has one or more layers of colors, like fire agate, and if you grind down through that layer you can end up with just plain brown-black obsidian.

Fire Obsidian is quite rare especially in the bright colors, however it is very directional, needs a bright light to see the colors and doesn't cab very well because the color surface has to be very flat. I've seen it being offered at the Madras Pow Wow by the carat. Bob

We have a couple small preforms that we paid dearly for. Pretty stuff but only visible in the right light at the right angle. I would like to get some photography tips from that seller.

From the way the bidding is going, I think my money would be bettter spent on a different type of material. But who knows I often can't hold myself back when it comes to spending money on this addiction. LOL Stu

seller has 100% feedback. I've bought from them before. They can be pricey like orca.

Fire obsidian is really rare. I have only found one piece ever in my slabs and the tiny fire ribbon is only about 2mm thick through the center of my slab. It's glass buttes material that I got from Woodyrock. I have not attempted to cab it yet and might not. I might just polish the slab because if I mess it up I would certainly cry real tears. My ribbon has the neon rainbows too and although small, it is AMAZING! When I was cutting my slab I was cutting parallel to the bands.... the small fire ribbon though.... went through the rock at a completely different angle. I have no experience with fire ob but I am guessing that is why it's so rare. I came across it accidentally and was so shocked I stopped cutting the rock immediately because I don't know how to proceed now that I've found it.
